(Look how worked up Brandon Sucks is on the right.)
So this happened late in the third period. Derek Stepan and Brooks Orpik collided:
Hard to justify the hit. Is it a legal hit? No. Is it dirty? Yea a little. A few things to look at.
- Stepan jumped out of the way, making contact with Orpik's knee.
- Not sure if Orpik really every stuck his leg out, but if you flip the script we'd be upset.
- Other than the time he broke Erik Cole's neck Orpik is a clean player. But that really doesn't help this, just wanted to bring that up again.
- Is this any different than the Rupp on Staal hit?
Later in the video above you can see Torts going nuts. He didn't cool off in his post game interview:
"I haven't talk to Rammer"
The best part of what he said:
It’s a cheap, dirty hit. I wonder what would happen if we did it to their two whining stars over there. I wonder what would happen. I’m anxious to see what happens with the league with this. (There’s) just no respect amongst players. None. It’s sickening.
It’s one of the most arrogant organizations in the league,” Tortorella said, wound as tight as the inside of a baseball. “They whine about this stuff all the time, and look what happens.”
This is vintage Torts. Trying to jam the Pens up, and get a rise from the league. No doubt the Rangers will solicit the league about this, and we're sure Shanny will have his say. Marty Biron also mouthed off. It isn't April until the Rangers start crying.
