The Morning Skate: 2/11

RLD Hockey is an NHL blog of mine where we take a look at the hot topics around the league on a daily basis. One of our staples is the 'Morning Skate', where I rundown everything going on in the NHL, including predictions on the big games. The PensBlog has been nice enough to let me share the Morning Skate with you .  You can follow us on Twitter @RLDhockey!

The Morning After:
Yesterday’s scores:
Devils 2, Maple Leafs 1 (OT)
Flyers 2, Hurricanes 1
Penguins 2, Kings 1 (OT)
Islanders 4, Canadiens 3 (SO)
Sabres 3, Panthers 2 (OT)
Predictions record: 3-2

My 3 stars of the night:
1. Tyler Myers, BUF (1 Goal, 1 Assist)… Myers is starting to play a lot better since the first half, and scored a huge overtime winner in Florida.
2. Michael Grabner, NYI (2 Goals)
3. Marc-Andre Fleury, PIT (32 Saves, 1 GA)

Tonight’s Slate:
Red Wings @ Bruins, 7:00 ET
Sharks @ Devils, 7:00
Penguins @ Islanders, 7:00
Avalanche @ Blue Jackets, 7:00
Rangers @ Thrashers, 7:30
Wild @ Blues, 8:00
Blackhawks @ Stars, 8:30
Ducks @ Flames, 9:30

Games of the Night:
Chicago Blackhawks @ Dallas Stars
8:30 ET… TV: Local Networks

Overall: Blackhawks (28-22-4) … Stars (30-18-6)
Last Ten: Blackhawks (5-4-1) … Stars (4-5-1)
Away/Home: Blackhawks (12-9-4) … Stars (16-7-5)
Season Series: Tied 1-1

Players to watch:
CHI- Jonathan Toews
Captain Toews has 15 points in 13 career games vs. Dallas.
DAL- James Neal
Neal has gone pointless in the last five games… he’s due.

Projected Goaltenders:
CHI- Corey Crawford (2010/11 stats: 17-11-2, 2.14 GAA)
DAL- Kari Lehtonen (2010/11 stats: 22-14-6, 2.64 GAA)

Injury Report:
CHI- Marian Hossa and John Scott (flu, questionable), Ryan Johnson (lower body, questionable)
DAL- Jamie Benn (shoulder, out), Adam Burish and Krys Barch (eye, out), Raymond Sawada (nose, questionable), Toby Petersen (lower body, out)

Game Thoughts:
A key Wild West showdown will take place in Dallas tonight as the ‘Hawks make their way to the Lonestar State. The Stars, losers of six of seven, no longer has the rest of the division in their rear-view mirror. They will try to fend off a Chicago team that is coming off a win and a trade that adds some more offense to the lineup. I think this will be an exciting game, with Chicago coming out on top.
Prediction: Blackhawks 5, Stars 3

Anaheim Ducks @ Calgary Flames
9:30 ET… TV: Local Networks

Overall: Ducks (30-21-4) … Flames (28-21-7)
Last Ten: Ducks (7-3-0) … Flames (8-1-1)
Away/Home: Ducks (13-13-3) … Flames (16-9-2)
Season Series: 1-0 Ducks

Players to watch:
ANA- Bobby Ryan
Ryan is quietly picking up steam, with 10 goals and 15 points in the last 12 games.
CGY- Jarome Iginla
‘Iggy’ has consistent put up points over the last month, but has zero goals since the break. That changes tonight.

Projected Goaltenders:
ANA- Jonas Hiller (2010/11 stats: 25-16-3, 2.56 GAA)
CGY- Miikka Kiprusoff (2010/11 stats: 24-18-3, 2.66 GAA)

Injury Report:
ANA- Jonas Hiller (fatigue, questionable)
CGY- Alex Tanguay (neck, out), Adam Pardy (upper body, questionable), Raitis Ivanans (concussion, out), Daymond Langkow (neck, out)

Game Thoughts:
Calgary has a tilt against rival Vancouver tomorrow night on the big stage, but they better be focused on this game tonight. Anaheim comes into town with some momentum after a couple important wins over conference foes. Both of these teams are jockeying for playoff positioning. Whenever these two meet it seems to be a fierce battle. It’s a toss-up… I’m going with the scorching Flames on home-ice.
Prediction: Flames 3, Ducks 2 (SO)

The rest of tonight’s predictions:
Red Wings over Bruins
Sharks over Devils
Penguins over Islanders
Avalanche over Blue Jackets
Thrashers over Rangers
Blues over Wild

Morning Links:
Tennessean… Barry Trotz comments on the pickup of Mike Fisher.
Puck Daddy… Greg Wyshynski has a nice piece on Devin Setoguchi and the Sharks.
Fan House… Will Quebec City’s new arena be able to pull in an NHL franchise?
Icethetics… An interesting look at the identity of the Lightning’s new logo.
