Proposed Penguin trades: Milan Hejduk

Everyday until the trade deadline we'll post a proposed Penguins trade. You can send yours in over email to thepensblog@gmail.com.

But don't bother sending just the trade proposal. We want a detailed post with cap numbers, reasoning, etc.

It should be noted that these are just ideas, these are not rumors.

This trade proposal was sent in by Guilherme F.

To Pittsburgh: Hejduk
To Colorado : Jeffrey

Hejduk adds leadership, experience, and of course, some scoring power.
He'll be an UFA in the summer, and as Colorado won't make to the post
season, he's one of the best choices for a rental.
Hejduk's price is probably about a second round pick; and I would say
Jeffrey is about that. It's better for both sides. Jeffrey won't have
any space when Crosby comes back, and he's showed he can't play as a
winger. He would just stay at wilkes bare untill his contract ended.
And he is getting older. In fact he'll be 24 in the trade deadline.
And Colorado gets a NHL ready prospect, who they don't have to worry
on developing. It would also allow them to trade Statsny and still
have 3 young centers.

Cap numbers:

Hejduk, Milan » $713,514

Projected Cap Space
       -$181,939

Shero would have to send some players down, or trade someone. But
nothing too complicated.

Jeffrey, D. » $136,757

Colorado under the cap.

Summary:
It's a lot like Guerin's deal. Pens get a first line veteran winger to
play with Crosby. But this time, instead of giving what eventually
turned out to be a second round pick, we give a prospect that has no
room anymore; and we keep the second round pick, in draft that will be
in Pittsburgh.
Hejduk could be only a rental. But if the Penguins decide to try to
keep him , it shouldn't be too hard. He would be probably available at
something around 2M; something similar to Guerin's contract. If he
plays another year.

Colorado gets a very good young two way foward, in exchange for a
veteran that will be an UFA in the summer. The perfect deal for a
rebuilding team.

OUR THOUGHTS:

We're huge Milan Hejduk fans. What a player. We could see a deal like this for the Pens, but you'd have to imagine more than Dustin Jeffrey. Maybe a 1st round pick in addition? Either way, we agree this would be very similar to something like a Bill Guerin move. Hejduk has been in some big games, he'd be a perfect rental.
