Preseason Gameday 6 – Red Wings

Detroit Red Wings Presented by Amway (3-3-1) vs. Pittsburgh Penguins (5-0-0)

5:00 pm/et

Joe Louis Arena

Preseason Series: 1-0-0

Last Meeting: September 21, 2011. Penguins won 3-2

What we said in our recap:

Malkin was too good. Scary good. He set up Chris Kunitz's first-period goal and scored a sick goal himself. He was back to creating turnovers, which is a great sign. Probably didn't hurt that he had real NHL linemates for the first time in like three years. Yeah, it was a preseason game. But who cares. What a joy to watch.

Know Your Enemy: Nightmare on Helm Street

What they're saying:

Goaltending may be an issue early on. There have been a few fluky goals, but not too many huge saves yet. We'll need those once the season starts. Having our main players out there at all times will help, but Howard and Conklin will need to step it up some.

Miller and Helm have had better hands so far. If this carries over into the regular season, expect them to each chip in between 12-15 goals.

Tatar loves scoring goals. This works out very well since I love it when he scores goals.

Abdelkader is becoming quite the pest and that's awesome.

Pittsburgh Penguins Notes:

ProHockeyTalk on Evgeni Malkin.

The PG's Pittsburgh Penguins preview.

Sidney Crosby won't play against Vancouver.

Detroit Red Wings Presented By Amway Notes:

The Red Wings want to move East next year. WAAAAAAAHHHHHH!

Tomas Holmstrom sucks.

The Red Wings "admit they're not ready to start season."

Preseason Gameday 6 – Red Wings

5:00 PM
Joe Louis Arena
Know the Enemy:

Who schedules a hockey game for 5pm?

The Pens wrap up the preseason in Joe Louis Arena.
If you listen carefully, you can still hear the Penguins celebrating the Stanley Cup at center ice.
Unless it's being drowned out by the Red Wings' tears that is.

Arron Asham and Brooks Orpik won't be in the line-up.
According to Dan Bylsma, Asham is "still reacting to getting smooshed" in Chicago.
Crosby won't be in the line-up either.  Probably because he doesn't respect Nick Lidstrom.

The Pens lines:

Eric Tangradi – Mike Comrie – Evgeni Malkin
Pascal Dupuis – Mark Letestu – Chris Kunitz
Mike Rupp – Craig Adams- Eric Godard
Matt Cooke – Max Talbot -Tyler Kennedy/DustinJeffrey

Paul Martin – Kris Letang
Alex Goligoski – Zbynek Michalek
Deryk Engelland – Ben Lovejoy

Not sure about who will be on the fourth line or in net.

The Wings lines:

Pavel Datsyuk – Henrik Zetterberg – Tomas Holmstrom
Johan Franzen – Valtteri Filppula – Mattias Ritola
Jiri Hudler – Mike Modano – Dan Cleary
Drew Miller – Darren Helm – Jan Mursak

Nickls Lidstrom – Niklas Kronwall
Brad Stuart – Brian Rafalski
Jonathan Ericsson – Ruslan Salei

Chris Osgood
Jimmy Howard

We're hearing that Osgood is definitely taking this game seriously.
He's been practicing being wildly out of position all morning.
No TV coverage again in Pittsburgh.  The game is on FSN Detroit and on the X.
