The Pittsburgh Penguins made the following moves to set their 23-man regular-season roster, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.
The Penguins assigned left wing Eric Tangradi to Wheeling of the ECHL and defenseman Simon Despres to Saint John of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Pittsburgh also placed forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel and defenseman Alex Grant on the injured reserve list and center Jordan Staal on the injured-non roster list.
The Penguins recalled goaltender Patrick Killeen from Wheeling.
The transactions set the team’s 23-man roster: 13 forwards; seven defensemen; and three goaltenders.
Tangradi to Wheeling is a little confusing. Figured if he went down it would be to WBS.
Doubt it's a problem.
Despres going back to the QMJHL was somewhat expected. Lovejoy and Engelland would have needed to clear waivers to go down.
He'll be a beast for the Pens in the future.
Calling up a goalie could mean injury issues with Fleury or Johnson, but that's just speculation. We don't know enough about this to make an educated guess. Maybe it has something to do with logistics and numbers as well.
