Pittsburgh is OFFICIALLY OUT on Zach Parise. He will not be joining the Penguins.

If this is true, it will be interesting to see what happens next. The Penguins aren't in a situation where they need to panic and immediately trade for someone now and the free agency market is pretty weak.
It's not like this is a "win or die" season for the Pens anyway. Parise would have definitely been nice, but Crosby, Malkin, Neal, Letang, Fleury, etc. are all still Penguins and the team will still be a contender for years to come.
EDIT: Apparently the Wings are out as well. It seems like the Minnesota Wild have pulled this off. Good for them.
At this point, we feel it would be better for the Pens to make possibly some smaller moves. There is no point in throwing too much money and a long term deal at someone who doesn't deserve it. There's also really no need to trade valuable assets in a desperate attempt to pick up someone like Bobby Ryan or Rick Nash. The Penguins just don't have those assets to spare. The cap space that the team now has will be incredibly valuable at the trade deadline and in keeping people like Malkin, Letang and Fleury with the Pens for a very long time.
