Mario Receives Order of Canada

We should have mentioned this earlier, but time travels more slowly in Canada than in the rest of the world.  Mario Lemieux was named to the Order of Canada.  (There's a good video on the CBC website at that link.)

The Order of Canada is Canada's highest civilian honour (yes, with a 'u'.)  There are three levels of the Order of Canada: Member, Officer and Companion.  Mario was named to the Officer category, which means he has "demonstrated an outstanding level of talent and service to Canadians."

Ivan Reitman, who directed Ghostbusters, also received the Order.

"It's a great honour to be here in Canada and accept the Order of Canada. It's something very special for me and the others here who have accomplished so much in their careers and their lives," Lemieux said. "It's really special for my wife Nathalie and me to be here today."
