Gameday 78 – Lightning

Yet another big game.  This is likely a first-round preview.

The Lightning could still technically catch the Pens to take home ice advantage and Montreal is breathing down Tampa Bay's neck.  In all honesty, a three-point game might be good here as long as the Pens win.  Then again, sending a statement to a possible playoff opponent matters too.

So the Lightning head into tonight's game with a two game win streak. The Pens are coming off of a 5-2 loss against the Flyers. And the Pensblog has been recently taken some time to analyze Mike Richards' tweets. Let's just all admit that M Richards' tweets are at least more interesting than the ones the Lightning players have been retweeting. Like I said on my twitter, if getting retweeted by a hockey player makes your life, you might need to actually get a life.

Now the Lightning are just two points away of clinching their first playoff spot in four years. So tonight's game is big for the team. Can they build on the two recent wins and clinch a spot tonight? The last two times we played the Pens we were spanked pretty bad. The team can end off their season series even tonight with a win. This would be key for the Lightning if we end up facing them in the playoffs because nothing would be worse then going into game 1 of your first playoffs in years knowing you've been outscored in the last two meetings 13-2.

Season series: Penguins Lead 2-1

Last meeting: January 5, 2011 – Penguins Won 8-1

What we said in our recap:

The only thing that could've made this game better was if Dominic Moore took off his skate and attacked Adam Hall and Ryan Malone with it.

We have zero sympathy and no time to cry for Tampa Bay. Even with this game being the second of a back-to-back against two Eastern Conference powerhouses, there is no excuse for coming out flatter than Kate Moss.

Lightning notes:
Ryan Malone will be back in the line-up for Tampa. He had a groin injury and a torn abdominal muscle. We're guessing he suffered both injuries while straining to pick up a penny off the sidewalk.
Dwayne Roloson will be in net.
