Gameday 77 – Islanders

Pittsburgh Penguins (47-23-6) @ New York Islanders (32-33-11)

7:00 pm/et

TV: ROOT, MSG Plus

Nassau Veterans Memorial Terrible Arena – Uniondale, New York

The Penguins have one awful game against the Islanders each season. They had that game a couple of days ago. Tonight it's time to ruin them.

Season Series: 4-1-0.

Last meeting that counted: March 27, 2012. Penguins lost 5-3.

What we said in our recap:

Get real. Great win for the Isles and their fan base. Too bad they are in 13th place. Already brings us to Thursday night in Long Island. How will Bylsma have the Pens prepared? How will the red-hot Penguin team react to this punch to the side of the face? If the Pens are destined for great things this season, then Thursday night may be an offensive massacre.

What they're saying:

The Islanders have signed goaltender John Grahame for the remainder of the season to back up Al Montoya. Newsday’s Arthur Staple reported that he should join the team on Friday.

Grahame has not appeared in an NHL game since the 2007-2008 season, when he played in 17 games and had a 3.75 goals against average and a .875 save percentage. Since then he split time between the AHL’s Albany River Rats, KHL’s Omsk Avangard, AHL’s Adirondack Phantoms and the AHL’s Lake Erie Monsters.

The 36 year old retired after last season, playing in 34 games for the Monsters, posting a 2.39 goals against average and a .911 save percentage. Before signing with the Islanders today, he had been the goaltending coach for the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL.

Being a goaltender on the Islanders is basically a guarantee that you'll be seriously injured. If Grahame plays a game, he'll be the sixth person to play in net for the Islanders this season. The other five are Evgeni Nabokov, Al Montoya, Rick DiPietro, Kevin Poulin and Anders Nilsson.
