Gameday 75 – Devils

New Jersey Devils (42-27-6) @ Pittsburgh Penguins (46-22-6)

7:00 pm/et

TV: ROOT, MSG Plus

Consol Energy Center – Pittsburgh, PA

The Pens will try to bounce back after yesterday's game in Ottawa.

Season Series: 2-3-0

Last meeting that counted: March 17, 2012. Penguins won 5-2.

What we said in our recap:

What triggered the big day for the Pens? The Neal Play™ off the face-off. The most amazing thing about it is that the Devils, a team pretty much a lock for the playoffs unless they choke, either didn't watch film on the Penguins or simply couldn't defend it. It may be the latter. Every one in the NHL has seen the Penguins score on The Neal Play at least a dozen times this year. NHL players have seen it as they watch highlights on NHL Network. It's nothing new, and the Penguins continue to execute it.

Know Your Enemy: Running With The Devils

What they're saying:

Travis Zajac is almost back! Look to see him possibly back Sunday night @ Pittsburgh or sometime next week. The Devils certainly do miss Zajac and with his presence, the power play will improve! Attendance tonight at the Prudential Center was 16,022 (91% full). Josefson must feel proud knowing that he broke a long goal drought. His last goal was on 3/30/11 against the Islanders (NJ won that game 3-2 in OT).

Another absolutely huge game for the Pens.  A loss tonight would essentially reverse everything they accomplished last night, as the Pens would be four points behind Philly with only seven games left to play.  A win would put them only two points back.  The Penguins will have played two games more than the Flyers after tonight's game.

Know your enemy: Running With The Devils

News has started to surface that Jaques Lemaire is willing to consider remaining the coach in NJ next season. If you're a New Jersey Devils fan, that is the only news you want to hear. Well, that and maybe that you will make a playoff appearance this season but that appears to not be on the horizon for this team. The Devils are famous for having a revolving door behind their bench. Each of their three Stanley Cups, all won within a 10-year period, was won with a different coach. Now, you can't blame all the changes on the Devils, as Lemaire did retire last spring and Pat Burns had to step down because of cancer. Some of the other coaches in recent history were just knuckleheads, yea you Kevin Constantine. The Devils NEED Lemaire to come back, anyone with half a brain knows that.

What we said in our recap:

Ilya Kovalchuk is a douche bag. He is a pompous show-off. He is annoying. Kovalchuk is also a world-class, game-changing superstar, something that we don't get to see anymore. And, God, does it suck. So when Michalek got called for a bullshit penalty late in OT and the Devils needed a goal, guess who showed up. Yeah, it was a wide-open net, but that don't mean shit. And as you look at all the pics of Kovalchuk celebrating…you think of a time not so long ago when the Pens had superstar players… when Malkin would end a game in OT or Crosby would take shit over. Now we just have Tyler Kennedy scoring goals. We're in Hell right now, people. Hell.

Devils notes:
The Devils are now nine points out of the playoffs. Is their run over?
For some reason, Zach Parise is expected to return this season. Does he want to say goodbye to New Jersey?
