Gameday 63 – Stars

Pittsburgh Penguins (36-21-5) @ Dallas Stars (33-26-4)

7:30 pm/et

American Airlines Center – Dallas, TX

James Neal and Matt Niskanen return to the team that drafted them. This will be their first game in Dallas against the Stars. Alex Goligoski plays against his old team once again as well.

To mark this occasion, here's what we said when the trade went down:

It's sad to see Goligoski leave, but Neal is a solid winger who can score goals. Niskanen is a decent defenseman with an offensive upside. It's a good trade for the Pens. Despite taking on some salary, Shero improved the team today.

And this is after the news had a chance to sink in:

Looking more and more at this deal, it's astonishing that the Stars would've let this trade go through, even if it was a one-on-one Goligoski/Neal trade. But somehow Shero was able to wrestle defenseman Matt Niskanen away from Dallas, also.

Season Series: 1-0-0

Last meeting that counted: November 11, 2011. Penguins won 3-1.

What we said in our recap:

James Neal is on a different level. Neal scored two goals against his former team, and the Pens win 3-1.

What they're saying:

The opponent tonight is another tough one as the Pittsburgh Penguins come into town. Dallas lost 3-1 in the previous matchup between the two earlier this season. That game was noteworthy because Alex Goligoski was injured and subsequently missed a month of games. Fingers are crossed for a healthier showing tonight.

Apparently they re-enacted this fight today at practice. If Crosby's concussion symptoms return, you know who to blame.
