Gameday 56 – Kings

7:00 pm

CONSOL Energy Center

TV: FSN/NHL Network US

At first we weren't sure whether we should post this here or on Wilkes-Blog.  Half of the forwards in the Pens line-up tonight started the season in the AHL (Chris Conner, Ryan Craig, Joey Vitale, Brett Sterling, Dustin Jeffrey and Nick Johnson.)  The good news is that Scuds is coming back to Pittsburgh tonight for the first time since the Cup win.  If anything should get you on your feet cheering tonight, it's Rob Scuderi.

What they are saying about the Kings:

How confident are the Los Angeles Kings right now? So confident that heading into the 2nd period of a pivotal game with the Calgary Flames… Drew Doughty sings along with Brooks & Dunn's "Play Something Country." 3 games on the road… 5 points… not bad, right? This whole "10 game roadtrip in February is going to be the death of this team thing" is over-rated, huh? Penguins on Thursday. Capitals on Saturday. Flyers on Sunday. Oh, boy.

What we said in our recap:

Going into this game, the Kings were as real as the Tooth Fairy to us. Coming out of this game, the Tooth Fairy is real and it will shit in your mouth. Anze Kopitar is the most imposing player the Pens have played against in a long time. The Pens needed Evgeni Malkin for this one, case closed. A vintage Chernobyl in the third period led to the Pens' demise. Any talk of injuries catching up to the Pens is garbage. They just didn't show up in the third period.

"The Pens needed Evgeni Malkin for this one." "…talk of injuries catching up…"
Ruh-roh.

Kings notes:
We'd make mention of the fact that Alexei Ponikarovsky is making his return to Pittsburgh tonight, but that would imply that he actually showed up last year.
The Kings are on game four of a ten game road trip.
