Gameday 52 – Bruins

Pittsburgh Penguins (29-18-4) @ Boston Bruins (32-15-2)

1:00 pm/et

TV: ROOT, NHLN-US, NESN

TD Garden – Boston, MA

The Bruins. When you're talking about tough teams, you have to talk about the Bruins. The defending Stanley Cup Champions are second in the Eastern Conference right now, but they lost to Carolina 3-0 on Thursday. This is going to be a battle for the Penguins.

The last time the Penguins played the Bruins was the last time Sidney Crosby played.

1 pm game. Wake up.

Season Series: 0-1-0.

Last meeting that counted: December 5, 2011. Penguins lost 3-1.

What we said in our recap:

If this was March or April, we'd be concerned. But the game was against the world champs in December. If anything, it gives the Pens a good measuring stick of where they need to be, and that measuring stick is the one your grandmother used to spank your ass when she caught you taking that long shower that one time.

But, honestly, it isn't like the Bruins are that much better than the Pens. The Pens had two 5-on-3s and could not score. That is the game in a nutshell. And seriously: Crosby at the left point on those powerplays? It's like going to a magic show and the magician just stands there for 10 minutes and leaves. No way Bylsma is that disconnected with reality. It almost looked like an experimental thing. If Tim Thomas didn't do meth before the game, the Pens score a powerplay goal anyway, so suck it.

Know Your Enemy: Days of Y'Orr.

What they're saying:

How much can change in two months. Almost two months to the day, the Bruins and Penguins were locked in a battle for first place in the Eastern Conference. The Bruins won the game 3-1 and it was someentertaining puck. Since that game the Penguins have gone 12-10 while the Bruins have gone 15-9. Boston has remained in the second spot in the Eastern Conference for a good portion of the season whilePittsburgh has jumped from first to eighth to now sitting in fifth in the Eastern Conference.

This is, of course, without their superstar Sidney Crosby. In his absence though, Geno Malkin has been on fire. Jon's bromance for Malkin has gone through the roof as of late so if he isn't tweeting or doing gamerecaps it's because he's in jail for stalking. There are rumors that Jon's 'Save the Date' invites for his wedding will be Jon cuddling with a Geno Malkin doll and his fiancee sitting behind them in tears. I'll leteveryone know when I'm disinvited for writing that.
