Gameday 38 – Devils

Pittsburgh Penguins (21-12-4) @New Jersey Devils (20-15-1)

3:00 pm/et

Prudential Center – Newark, New Jersey

The Penguins wrap up a pretty nightmarish 2011 calendar year with an Atlantic Division battle in New Jersey. Happy New Year everyone.

Season Series: 1-0-0

Last meeting that counted: October 22, 2011. Penguins won 4-1.

What we said in our recap:

Something's different this year. Last year, the Pens lose these home games to Montreal and New Jersey or, at the very least, let one or both teams escape with a point. Instead, there's a killer mentality starting to show up. The Pens now get to enjoy two days off for the first time in this season. But then they're back to the grind on Tuesday and Thursday, playing a home-and-home with the Isles, and then they're headed to Toronto on Saturday night.

Know Your Enemy: Running With The Devils

What they're saying:

One of the most talented teams in the league. There are so many weapons offensively that even without Sydney Crosby, they could easily blow this game open and make the Devils end 2011 on a bad note.

Pittsburgh Penguins Notes:

Steve MacIntyre is January Mustache Boy, which means we won't see a mustache on the ice all month.

The Devils miss Crosby.

It's New Year's Eve.

New Jersey Devils Notes:

Henrik Tallinder is expected to return today.

Why Jersey pride should include the Devils.

Bye 2011. No one associated with the Pittsburgh Penguins is really going to miss you. From the Crosby injury and the Winter Classic to blowing a 3-1 lead to the Lightning to the injuries to Malkin, Letang and many, many, MANY others to #JagrWatch to Talbot and Jagr joining the Flyers to Crosby's current injury to the Flyers game on Thursday to struggling against the league's top teams, not much has gone right for the Penguins during this calendar year. It's almost over. One more game.

Do It.

Go Pens.
