Gameday – 2012 Winter Classic

New York Rangers (23-9-4) @ Philadelphia Flyers (22-10-4)

3:00 pm/et

TV: NBC, CBC, RDS

Citizens Bank Park – Philadelphia, PA

The game taking place in Philadelphia today is a pretty huge one and that's not only because it's being played outside in a baseball stadium. The New York Rangers currently lead the Atlantic Division and the Eastern Conference in points with 50. The Philadelphia Flyers aren't far behind with 48 points. The Rangers have won six of their last seven games.  The Flyers have only won two of their last six, but won seven-in-a-row prior to that. The Rangers have won both games between these two teams this season.

Team Blogs:

The New York Rangers Blog. What they're saying about this game:

The NHL announced that the Winter Classic will start at 3 p.m., today. The game originally was scheduled for 1 p.m. The revised start time decision was based on tomorrow's weather forecast and should offer optimal game conditions for players and fans.

Ryan McDonagh had to leave yesterday's practice early with the flu, but will play this afternoon (via Pat Leonard). Andrew Gross says expect the same line-up as against the Panthers.

Broad Street Hockey. What they're saying about this game:

In two games against the New York Rangers this season, Claude Giroux has zero points. In one game against the Rangers, Jaromir Jagr has zero points. In two games, Scott Hartnell has one point … a secondary assist on an Andrej Meszaros power play goal.

If you want to understand why the Flyers haven't been able to beat the Rangers this season, there's your answer. The most potent offensive player in the league, and his two comrades, have been completely shut down by Henrik Lundqvist and the New York defense.

Game notes:

Marc Staal will be in the line-up for the Rangers.

Sergei Bobrovsky will be in net for the Flyers.
