Gameday 18 – Avalanche

Colorado Avalanche (8-8-1) @ Pittsburgh Penguins (10-4-3)

7:30 pm/et

TV: Versus, TSN2

CONSOL Energy Center, Pittsburgh, PA

It looks like Tyler Kennedy may be in the line-up tonight, proving once and for all that his brain is tougher than Sidney Crosby's brain. Of course, Kennedy isn't a Ferrari, so he can probably just go to a regular mechanic to get repaired. Steve Sullivan might be in the line-up as well. Both players are game-time decisions.

The Avalanche come to Pittsburgh tonight. We generally like the Avalanche. Matt Duchene is a great player and we still have fond memories of the Sakic/Forsberg days. However, the current Avalanche have won only three times in their last ten games and they only have three regulation wins all season. Remember when Colorado traded a first-round and a second-round pick to Washington for Semyon Varlamov? Yeah, those picks could be a pretty good.

Season Series: 0-0-0

Last meeting that counted: February 16, 2011. Penguins won 3-2 [OT].

What we said in our recap:

Tyler Kennedy has turned into Sidney Crosby apparently, as ever since Dan Bylsma exposed himself to TK at some one-on-one practice, TK is playing like a mad man. Jordan Staal carried the whole world from the second period on.

TK Citaaaaaay!

Know Your Enemy: JibbleScribbits and Anyone But Detroit:

What Anyone but Detroit is saying:

So obvious stuff first: what a game for Duchene. Ok, the 2nd goal was practically handed to him, and the other two of the goals were perhaps a little soft, but he was flying all night long and made a lot of Stars players look silly trying to get the puck aways from him.

Pittsburgh Penguins Notes:

As mentioned, TK and Sullivan are game-time decisions.

No Crosby.

Dustin Jeffrey is back with the big Pens.

Colorado Avalanche Notes:

Milan Hejduk is the new captain of the Avalanche.

The Avs are slumping.

Something else.

Semyon Varlamov

It's tough having no idea who's going to play for the Pens on any given night. As fans, it's difficult to go into a game when you don't know who'll be in the line-up, but imagine what it's like for the players. Will they be lining up alongside Tyler Kennedy tonight? Dustin Jeffrey? Steve Sullivan? How do the coaches deal with this without going crazy?

How many Varlamov/Penguins/Capitals references will we hear tonight?

Do It.

Go Pens.
