Gameday 12 – Islanders

Pittsburgh Penguins (7-2-2) @ New York Islanders (3-4-0)

7:00 pm/et

CONSOL Energy Center

The Pittsburgh Penguins did everything they needed to do on Tuesday night in Long Island. They didn't let the Islanders drag them into anything stupid. Instead they ignored all distractions, went out and took care of business. It was impressive to watch.

Tonight is the rematch.

Season Series: 1-0-0

Last meeting that counted: October 25, 2011. Penguins won 3-0.

What we said in our recap:

Marc-Andre Unreal went on a safari vacation this past summer. But last night, he took a trip into the mouths of the New York Islanders. Fleury turned away all 33 shots he faced and the Penguins cruised to a 3-0 win.

This game may have been won before a puck was even dropped because of the big-time coaching decisions of Dan Bylsma. Instead of starting fighter Steve MacIntyre, Bylsma choose to play Dustin Jeffrey. This made Islanders Coach Fat Capuano not dress Trevor Gillies. The Islanders were banking on some type of fight or some shit. It never happened. And how about Richard Park? First Penguin in a while to come back and haunt a former team.

Perfect road game for the Pens. They return to CEC against the Islanders on Thursday.

What they're saying:

The Islanders are in Pittsburgh tonight to take on the Penguins after falling 3-0 to them on Tuesday at the Coliseum. The Isles are in the midst of a three game slump, but no one is pushing the panic button yet.

The Islanders played their best game, out of the three they lost, on Tuesday. Josh Bailey, Blake Comeau, Kyle Okposo and Michael Grabner all created scoring chances. Grabner’s line seemed to have been getting some of their rhythm back and Bailey and Comeau made their presence known on the ice. Not to mention the Islanders outshot their opponents and had they 17 to 18 scoring chances according to head coach Jack Capuano.

So no one on the Island is hitting the panic button.

Pittsburgh Penguins Notes:

Malkin is playing.

Flower's in the cage.

The 2012 NHL Entry Draft will be in Pittsburgh. [Video]

New York Islanders Notes:

The Islanders website has a piece on Kasparaitis in 1993.

We hate the Islanders. Especially in 1993.

It looks like Nabokov will be in net again.

Jurcina, who's been suffering from a groin injury, may play tonight.

This game likely means a lot to the Islanders. They're trying to develop a rivalry with the Pens and to do so they'll need to be competitive. Fleury may have to weather the storm early. A win tonight would be five-in-a-row for the Pens.

It's third jersey night. The Pens are also wearing purple during the warm-up to support "Hockey Fights Cancer." Speaking of fighting cancer, click here.

Do It.

Go Pens.
