Are the Penguins clearing roster space for a return or two? Maybe not.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned forwards Dustin Jeffrey and Steve MacIntyre to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on a conditioning assignment, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.
Jeffrey and MacIntyre will remain on Pittsburgh’s 23-man active roster and will be paid their NHL salary during their conditioning assignment.
Consider us confused.
This feels a little like Shero sending Tangradi down to Wheeling last year in that it may be a procedural move, but the two remaining on the active roster confuses us.
It could just be that the Pens want Jeffrey and MacIntyre to stay in shape during the Pens long break. Neither player has seen all that much action this year, so that would make perfect sense.
Either way, the Pens moving players around is always interesting… especially with the rumors that have been swirling.
