Alex Semin goes to Carolina

Jordan Staal could have a new linemate and the Pittsburgh Penguins have one fewer option at wing. The Carolina Hurricanes have signed Alex Semin. It's a one-year, $7 million deal according to Darren Dreger.

Are the Hurricanes now the top team in the Southeast?

EDIT: Imagine if the planned realignment idea actually came to be? The Canes, Caps, Pens, Flyers, Rangers, Devils and Islanders would be in the same conference. And only four would make the playoffs. Then you'd have to play out of your conference to move on. That would be some insanely competitive hockey.
