The suspension is a little surprising, especially since Michalek wasn't suspended or fined for his hit. Not that the two hits had anything to do with one another, but this is the NHL we're talking about.
Of course, the Ovechkin hit was a dangerous hit (see it here) and a suspension was deserved, but we didn't actually expect to see one. Ovechkin definitely leaped at Michalek and it's nice to see Ovechkin's history taken into account in his situation.
Of course, as always, what we're really hoping for is some consistency on penalties and suspensions. We doubt that we'll get that any time soon.
