Seven Years ago things didn’t look so great.

December 20, 2006. [ blogspot ] #Neverforget. These days we are speculating about the Pens possible playoff lineup in December. Seven years ago, we weren't sure they'd even be around. We posted this a few years ago, and probably will post is every year on this date.   We also just found this in an […]

RECAP: Game 37. Pens beat Wild 5-2.

There is something far more important going on right now than just winning. Think forward to mid-April. Game 1 of a playoff series. The Penguins defense will look something like this:   Letang-Scuderi Orpik-Martin Niskanen-Maatta   The Niskanen/Maatta pairing is the highlight. There is no telling where things will go, but if the Pens […]

QUICK CAP: It doesn’t Maatta who plays. Pens win.

The game ended with Olli Maatta holding the puck. Fitting because this game belonged to him. And, oh, yeah — the Pens won again, this time beating the surprisingly scummy Wild, 5-2.  Goals from Dupuis, Niskanen, Sutter,  Kunitz, and Maatta paced the Pens. Zatkoff with his sixth straight win. OUR THREE STARS 3. The standing […]

Pittsburgh Penguins Gameday 37: Minnesota Wild

Minnesota Wild (20-11-5) @ Pittsburgh Penguins (25-10-1) Root Sports, NHLN-US, FS-N- 7:00 pm/et  Consol Energy Center – Pittsburgh, PA Matt Cooke returns to Pittsburgh as the Wild face the injured and tired Penguins. The good news is that James Neal will be back in the line-up tonight. We assume that, at some point in the […]

RECAP: Game 36. Pens beat Rangers 4-3.

The narrative for the first 45 minutes:  You simply had to be in a completely different mind-set to find a game like that entertaining. If you went in with the sole intention of analyzing the play of all of the Pens’ young money, then this game was for you. If you wanted an entertaining hockey […]

QUICK CAP: Sutter free. Pens win.

What a hockey game this turned out to be. Everything was going great. The ragtag defense, a completely new five-man unit, was playing above expectations. But experience in the NHL isn't just given; it is learned, sometimes painfully. Up 3-1, the Pens wilted under the pressure from a desperate Rangers team. The Rangers tied it […]

Pittsburgh Penguins Gameday 36: New York Rangers

Pittsburgh Penguins (24-10-1) @ New York Rangers (16-17-1) NBCSN, TSN2 – 8:00 pm/et  Madison Square Garden – New York City, NY Tonight, Brian Gibbons, Harry Zolnierczyk, Zach Sill and the Pittsburgh Penguins enter the World's Most Famous Arena to play the Rangers. RECAP: Game 36. Pens beat Leafs 3-1.

As the camera gave a bunch of Penguins some face time during the anthems, it felt like we were Experiencing the Evolution all over again. That feeling was punctuated watching the Penguins lines being introduced. Harry Zolnierczyk was on the second line. THE SECOND LINE.   The Pens were missing over half of their […]

Slow motion GIF of Bortuzzo’s hit on D’Amigo

This is a nasty hit. The head is contacted for sure, but not sure it was targeted though. Bort is a big dude.       Crazy we're seeing Pittsburgh throwing predatory head shots every single night. NHL might want to do something about that

QUICK CAP: Pens just keep winning. LOLeafs.

The Leafs must have felt right at home amongst all the AHL caliber players. It's too bad they made two mistakes. 1. They pissed off Sidney Crosby. 2. They lost sight of him for one second. Career minor leaguer Nazem Kadri got Crosby all jammed around, and then with five minutes left Crosby waited for […]

Pittsburgh Penguins Gameday 35: Toronto Maple Leafs

Toronto Maple Leafs (17-14-3) @ Pittsburgh Penguins (23-10-1) Root Sports, NHLN-US, SNET-O, RDS- 7:00 pm/et  Consol Energy Center – Pittsburgh, PA Apparently, the Pittsburgh Penguins are going to play the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight, but we don't see very many Pittsburgh Penguins in the line-up, so we're not exactly sure what's going on here. There […]

Shawn Thornton is an asshole; will appeal suspension.

So lets get something straight. Shawn Thornton will apeal his suspension, represented by the same NHLPA, that represents Brooks Orpik. Awkward.  But that is going to be what happens according to Espn's Pierre Lebrun…   Shawn Thornton's agent Anton Thun confirms his client will appeal his 15-game suspension — Pierre LeBrun (@Real_ESPNLeBrun)

Notes & Lines: Crosby vs. Kessel

Sidney Crosby and what's left of the Pittsburgh Penguins will face off against Phil Kessel and what appears to be the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight. Dion Phaneuf will be back in the line-up for Toronto, if he's able to select the right pair of shoes on time. Line combinations after the jump. Hopefully you're not […]

So… Letang’s on IR Now Too

The Penguins have placed Kris Letang on injured reserve. They've also recalled Philip Samuelsson and Harry Zolnierczyk from WBS. This means Scuderi, Martin, Orpik and Letang are all missing from the blue line due to injuries. Plus, Engelland will likely be suspended.
