TRADE DEADLINE — 12:00am to 12:00pm

Special thanks to Rick from PENGUINS

handling the blogging duties on the busiest day of the season.

To handle comments more easily, this post will be up until 12:

then we'll have a post wrapping everything up at 3:00.

11:50 AM

Sportsnet says that the Pens have traded Danny Richmond to St. Louis for Andy

Penguins signing a defenseman could lead to someone like Hal Gill being traded.  Wozniewki isn't going to set the world on fire.  He likely won't be in the Pens top six.  He was brought here for depth mostly.

Richmond was brought to Pittsburgh in the summer in exchange for Tim Brent.  He has spent his time in WBS.

Shero signing depth here.  It looks like another trade is coming up.

11:41 AM

Jordan Leopold traded to the Flames for Lawrence Nycholat, Ryan Wilson and a second round pick.

11:40 AM

Check out the TIOPS link up top.  Woooooooo

11:28 AM

The Calgary Flames reportedly have a deal for Olli Jokinen done.  There could be cap space issues with Calgary though.  TSN speculates that another team may need to take a player from Calgary to free up space.

10:47 AM

Tim Connolly signs a two-year contract with the Sabres that will pay him $4.5 million/season.  This keeps him in Buffalo with Ales Kotalik, and means this site is still relevant.

10:37 AM

Brian Burke says Dominic Moore and Nik Antropov will be traded today. He says that the asking price for Antropov has gone down from a first round pick to possibly a second round pick and/or a prospect.

10:32 AM

Pascal Leclaire confirms that he will likely not play again this season. Ottawa looks to be building for the future.

10:10 AM

Talks have broken off between the Leafs and Dominic Moore. He will be traded today.
TSN manages to slip a Rico Fata reference into the conversation.

Rico Fata

10:07 AM

Thrashers GM Don Waddel says that Ilya Kovalchuk will not be traded.

9:55 AM

Antoine Vermette has been traded to Columbus for Pascal Leclaire and a second round pick.

Ottawa may finally have a goalie that lasts more than a few seasons in their net.

In Vermette the Blue Jackets gain a center that will definitely help them out, especially on the penalty kill.

9:32 AM

Mark Recchi is on TSN right now. He's frustrated that he's had no communication with the Lightning's front office staff regarding a trade. He praised Craig Patrick for communicating with him before the 2006 deadline and said that wasn't happening today.

This, combined with the fact that Roberts wasn't told he was being put on waivers, again shows that the Lightning organization is a joke.

9:16 AM

Pierre McGuire is such an annoying dick toucher.

Empty Netters has a good screen cap of him invading some personal space.

8:43 AM

Non-trade-related news: Marian Hossa is not seriously injured and is listed day-to-day.

8:39 AM

TSN's coverage clarifies.

If a team has $1 million in cap space, they can sign someone with a cap hit of $4.5 million for the rest of this season.

The Penguins have about $3.5 million, so they have space to be active today.

8:00 AM

Welcome to the ridiculously over-hyped trade deadline coverage!

The Score says that the Jay Bouwmeester sweepstakes is down to Vancouver and Philadelphia.

The Canucks are offering Kevin Bieksa, Mason Raymond and a number one pick while he Flyers are offering Joffrey Lupul, James vanRiemsdyk and a number one pick.

Reportedly neither of those offers are good enough.

7:42 AM

TSN reports that the Anaheim Ducks have taken Chris Pronger off of the market.

This could mean that Scott Niedermayer could be headed for retirement this summer.

12:48 AM

A note on trade discussions between Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay.

Before tonight's game the TSN panel mentioned that earlier today Lightning GM Brian Lawton approached Ray Shero and asked him if he would be interested in a trade that would bring Ryan Malone back to Pittsburgh. Shero wasn't interested citing Malone's large contract as the main reason.

The panel also noted that Martin St. Louis did not come up in the discussions.

12:03 AM

Surprise character, besides Stallone's

the dude at 6:45 even think he has a chance?

12:00 AM

About the Satan situation, here is what's going on. The Pens started the process on Tuesday, and if he is still available as of noon Wednesday, he will belong to the Pens. If that happens, that means the Pens can do whatever they want with him; meaning they can send him to the minors, thus taking his salary off the books.

Based on the facts, Satan most likely played his last game as a Penguin Tuesday tonight.
And something is about to go down. Buckle up.
