We've all been waiting for this.
There hasn't been this much anticipation for a Pens preseason game since we came out of the lockout.
Tonight Mellon Arena begins its final run.
The old girl is getting ready to do what she does best: House a hockey game.
There is a space in the rafters that will soon be filled with some new banners.
But no one can be thinking about that right now.
That was last season.
It was incredibly special, but if the Pens spend their time reminiscing about what it was like to raise the Cup over their heads instead of focusing on the upcoming season, there will be trouble.
The Summer of Woooooo is over.
The 2009 – 2010 NHL season is upon us.
The Columbus Blue Jackets.
This is a preseason game.
Don't get us wrong, this won't be anything like a regular game.
The difference in intensity between the last time the Pens played and tonight will be like the difference in the backchecking efforts of Jordan Staal and Alexander Ovechkin.
Nonetheless, it's NHL hockey.
It's what we've been waiting months for.
The offseason was only about three months long, but it felt like forever.
How can something so short seem so long?
Mike Richards is hoping the same phenomenon affects his penis tonight.
Tonight's line-up for the Pens:
Chris Kunitz – Sidney Crosby – Eric Tangradi
Pascal Dupuis – Jordan Staal – Ruslan Fedotenko
Chris Conner – Dustin Jeffrey – Ryan Bayda
Zach Sill – Joe Vitale – Eric Godard
Simon Despres – Sergei Gonchar
Mark Eaton – Deryk Engelland
Jay McKee – Robert Bortuzzo
No Malkin though.
hold the wooo…
geno took a header into the boards at camp today. they were working one-on-one's in the last session of practice and freecandy was working geno as he broke down the side boards. they got tangled up as geno sliced to the crease, and what resulted hushed mellon arena like i've never heard before (granted there were only a couple hundred fans there… but still). geno took a full-on into the end boards. seemed to absorb the impact with his right shoulder and right side. he laid on the ice for a second or two, got to a knee, and was slow to get up. he appeared to skate it off, but he didn't look the same every other one-on-one he took. me = concerned. some that were at mellon, too, may say it didn't look that bad. and neither did crosby's when he went in. geno didn't play the same the rest of practice.
Apparently he wasn't scheduled to play tonight anyway, so you can back away from that bridge now.
For at least a while…. We hope.
No Rick Nash for the Blue Jackets.
We have no idea what their lines are.
Garon returns to the Igloo.
Rumor has it that Umberger is from Pittsburgh, but we're waiting for clarification on that one.
No TV coverage for tonight's game.
Preseason. Going with someone new.
