Capitals Lead Series 2-0

7:00PM/ET – Mellon Arena

This is where we draw the line.

The Mellon Arena.
The Igloo.
The oldest building in the National Hockey League.
It doesn’t have much time left.  Its replacement is growing across the street.
It’s outdated.  It’s worn.  It has a laundry list of flaws.
But it’s home.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are down by two games in this series.
They have lost two straight one goal games to the Washington Capitals.
But tonight they’ll be at home.

The Capitals are a good hockey team.
Anyone that believes any different is wrong.
The Caps are fast and strong.  Ovechkin is a beast and Varlamov is on fire.
But the Pittsburgh Penguins are also a good hockey team.

And tonight they’ll be at home.

If you’re going to be down 0-2 in a series, you want to be at home.
You want to be in front of 17,000 screaming fans.
You want to see towels twirling and people cheering.
You want to know that outside of the old arena there are thousands more doing exactly the same thing.

And this is where we are.
Capitals fans have enjoyed this series so far.
They’ve talked about how Ovechkin has dominated and how Varlamov is the second coming of Ken Dryden.
They’ve mocked our players and our fans and our city.
They say tonight’s rally is pointless, that we’ll be cheering on a dead team.

Let them say what they want.
We won’t be able to hear them over the roar of the crowd.

Kris Letang says he’s fit to play. He’ll be a game-time decision.

John Erskine and Eric Fehr could be out for the Caps.  Michae Nylander could dress tonight.

TSN has a video preview.  They’ve also listed some interesting projected line combinations:
Kunitz – Crosby – Guerin
Fedotenko – Talbot – Malkin
Cooke – Staal – Kennedy
Dupuis – Adams – Godard/Satan

Orpik – Gonchar
Gill – Scuderi
Eaton – Letang/Boucher

They’re saying Petr Sykora is the odd man out. lists these lines:

There is also speculation that Malkin and Crosby will spend more time on the same line tonight.

“My friends and I that go to Ohio University in Athens, Ohio wanted to get Kunitz out of his slump tonight. We figured the whole world needs to see the pain we are willing to endure for a Pens victory and a Kunitz goal. Lets go Pens.”

PSAMP has a China Jack update.

There is a new banner at the Consol Energy Center.

Malkin, Ovechkin and Pavel Datsyuk are the Lester B. Pearson Award nominees.

There’s really only one choice for tonight:

Go Pens.
