Kovalchuk to the Pens

Trade Goligoski.
Bench Malkin.
Fire Bylsma.
Are the Penguins playing great hockey right now?  No, they’re not.
Is the power play struggling?  That’s obvious.
But we can promise you something:
At some point in time, Evgeni Malkin will score a goal.
It may even come on the power play.
Everyone hitting the panic button right now needs to relax.
Just because you’d make a trade in NHL10, that doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do in real life.
Ray Shero is paid to be a general manager of an NHL franchise.
He put together last year’s Stanley Cup Champions.
He just might know what he’s doing here.
Sidney Crosby held a press conference on his first day in Western Canada.
On the power play:

“It’s definitely frustrating. There are times where that’s the difference between winning and losing. I really don’t think it’s a lack of effort. I think everybody wants to do well. It’s just been a matter of not executing well.”

On Evgeni Malkin’s slump:

“Practice is all you can do. It’s again, when you talk about confidence, not scoring in games makes it tough to build that confidence and get on that roll or get that momentum. I think the next best thing is to get it through practice. The more you can bear down in practice, hopefully with time you’ll come back and it carries over to games. He practices hare and he always has. He’s going to find a way to score. It’s just a matter of time. There are always tough times like this that everybody goes through.”

The Pens game in Philly on January 24th will be NBC’s “NHL Game of the Week.”
Go Pens.
