[Courtsey of FSN and PENS UNIVERSE]

0-24 last year?  Must have blacked out.  God.

Who would've thought a 5-2 win against the Thrashers on January 5th would be comparable to sex?
But that's what it is.

Although it's difficult to give this game a lot of weight.
Atlanta has now lost 9 straight.
Compared to the recent teams the Pens have faced, the Thrashers are butt crust.
But a win is a win.

Jordan Staal is on a different level. With Bingo and Geno busy making hotel arrangements for Vancouver, Staal has arguably been the Pens' most solid player the last 10 games.

It was nice to see a guy like Caputi, playing for the injured Chris Kunitz, get a goal.
That is why we hated Chris Bourque so bad.  He didn't do shit.  It took Caputi a shift to show up.
(Stay tuned after the jump for a beautiful Chris Bourque story.)

A big test for the Pens looms on the horizon.
After the Flyers at the Mellon on Thursday, the Pens go back on the road.
As we all remember, the last time the Pens hit up Western Canada, it was a good time.

By the halfway mark of the first period, the Thrashers knew what Brent Johnson's bowel-movement schedule was.
It was a relentless assault of shots.
In keeping the Pens in the game early, Johnson was flashing the glove and had help from the post.

There's absolutely nothing else to say about the first period.

Luca Caputi drew a penalty, which gave the Pens more players than the Thrashers for two minutes.
Poop.

Nacho Guy unimpressed

"Hey Guys -- I live near Hershey, PA, and after Chris Bourque got sent back to Hershey, I figured it was only fitting to get a picture of him with Pensblog Charlie.
He even autographed the poster for me.

I think that Bourque likes to spike his hair so he looks a little bit taller, but the picture of him signing the poster makes him look like a freakin' midget.  For perspective, I'm 5'10''... he's just not a very tall man. haha.

GO PENS!

Ali
"

second

The nets started filling up in the second period.
It started when Letang moseyed into the slot and beat Pavelec with a wrister.  1-0.

Not be outdone, AC gets a semi-breakaway.
Johnson's poke-check was futile.  1-1.

Dude in the hat is up to no good

The Thrashers almost took the lead 2-1 when Malkin makes a bizarre pass to the front of his net.  wtf.
We were gonna see that again later in the second.

Jordan Staal comes onto the scene and bulls his way into the Thrashers zone.
TK picks up a loose puck and has no clue why Staal is left uncovered in front.  2-1.

The Thrashers gave the Pens consecutive power plays halfway through the second.
As much as the Pens PP is robert downey jr, you mess with fire, you're gonna get burned.

Their PP goal comes on a rush, not on a PP setup in the zone.
And again, Staal made shit happen.  Feds picks up a loose puck.  3-1.
What a stupid play by Armstrong on that play. Idiot.

And less than 2 minutes after Staal's goal, Crosby sets up Slater beautifully in front.  3-2.

It all added up to the Pens going into the third holding onto a one-goal lead.

To tag your pics with your name, go here.
It even downsizes your pics for you.

third

The Pens had to kill that Goligoski penalty that drifted into the third period.
Cake.  Pens even had the better scoring chances.  Staal again.

Evgeni Malkin's slump is an enigma.  Then again, he's 23 years old.
When we were 23, we were getting slammed with overdraft fees every week and our cars wouldn't start.

So Malkin becomes a one-man wrecking crew and takes shit into his own hands.
No NHL defensemen should let Malkin make that move in front.
Malkin gets all he can on a backhand to the net.
Rebound.  Luca.  4-2.

It's not too early to hope the Mellon resonates with chants of LOOOOOOO in due time.

It was still a two-goal lead that could turn on a dime.
As soon as the Thrashers decided to give up, the Pens took advantage to put the final nail in.

TK and his speed never gets old.
He flies into the zone, lets off a shot.
NHL 10.  Jordan Staal.  5-2. GAME.

  • Huge win for Cowboy Curtis. Keep the gameday ideas coming.
  • USA USA USA USA

What a win for the USA over Canada in a surreal game at the World Juniors.
This game only makes you think what the Olympics will be like.

Speaking of which, we have big news.

We are ironing out most of the details, but we will be launching a Olympic Fantasy game at the end of the month.
It is from the makers of Rinkotology. And it is going to be sick.

It will be a $10 buy in. Winner gets $500 and a world-championship belt we are designing.
Second place gets $400, third place $300.

Or at least that's the plan. Money amounts might change as we get closer.

But we want to gauge interest in this thing.

Solid game last night. Even though Sid looked out of sorts last night, the rest of the team picked it up - at least after about the first 10 minutes.

You called Armstrong an idiot. Prepare for the onslaught - lots of folks defend him like their kid's virginity.

Some typed out chest-thumping in C-blog last night. I gather somebody needs to look up the definition of "respect" in the dictionary. Here, let me help:

Yeah I mean aren't we trading Kunitz for Army? Maybe they'll even throw Kovalchuck into the deal.

Flyers Thursday. My mind is already full of win.

I think most people who are Army fans are pretty realistic about what would or would not be appropriate to get him back, and where he should play if he were ever to be resigned. Don't be douches, gentlemen. ;)

It was nice meeting up with the cblog Hall of Fame last night! The Pens' win streak when Fleuryous and I meet up is still intact. Hooray for us!

Also, I can't wait until the day "Chris Bourque" is on the list of censored words.

I dunno, they got that defenseman now who's going to stop Sid & Geno. I hear they traded for him especially for that reason.

And did somebody just job Fleuryous and Eileen? Really? I guess having fun at the game must be illegal now.

I know it's a little cliche to say that Team USA overcame all odds, but that's exactly what they did last night. Early in the 3rd, Canada gets away with high sticking. The fellas in the booth "Loved it because it put the game in the hands of the kids" USA went on and scored during the next 2 minutes anyway. Late in the 3rd, Team USA is helped into the Canada net by a defenseman. Eberle showed up for the final 3 minutes of the game to send it to OT. Team USA ignores that potential momentum shift and wins anyway.
Go Team.

This town has some sort of mass man crush on Colby Armstrong. . .its sad really. We trade away a world class athlete like JJ (because, all "dying alive" comments aside, the pens CHOSE not to pay him market value any longer) who helped bring two Stanley Cups to this town, and he's booed whenever he touches the puck. But whenever The Thrashers arrive in town, everyone's lining up to stroke a guy whose greatest contribution to this organization was allowing the Pens to land Pascal Dupuis.

I can't wait to see what the reaction is when Talbot gets traded in a few months.

I don't care that the Thrashers suck. All that matters to me is that we won!

Has anyone noticed that Malkin seems to be a little off and I don't mean in a slump either, it almost seems like he's recently had a concussion or something. He's been doing a lot of things that just don't seem to be like him.

OMG you know I REALLY do miss him and I was PRAYING that we'd sign him so he could retire a Penguin but that's highly doubtful. He may not be bitter about that or even care but I do. I mean we did it for Barasso so why not Jagr.

Not that anyone cares, my love affair with Army started during the lockout. Malkinstein and I went to a Baby Pens during spring break (and we took rovers... sweet baby jesus I'm still wondering if that was a mistake, love ya sis) and I just loved watching him play.

DA - Ditto on everything. I'd love to get Army back, but it is what it is. I still have my own personal opinions on the trade that took Army away, but I've gotten over it. So now I just try my best to make sure I get to see the Pens play the Thrashers at least once a year.

At the risk of being killed, I'm not a huge Malkin fan to begin with just because of certain things he tends to do. But yes, he does seem off. Even the things that he tends to do that I don't like... it's just been worse and on a much bigger scale.

Solid 50 minutes of hockey last nite. Nice to get 2 points regardless who it's against.

Was anyone listening to the pregame show? Stan was talking about Kolalchuk being on the market and the possibilities of where he could land. He said Chicago has expressed interest in him. How in the hell could they pull this off given that they just locked up Keith, Toews, and Kane for long term given that Ilya wants top dollar? I'd appreciate some insight on this even if it's just hypothetical thinking.

As much as people say the Blackhawks are built for the future with all that young talent, the reality of it is that they are in "win now" mode.

I don't think it's so much a "weird fascination with nobodies." Who are you (generally speaking, of course) to tell someone else who they should be a fan of or who is worthy of their loyalty?

As far as your passive/aggressive insult at the end there, you know nothing about me. I've never booed Jags and I'd like to see his number retired here, as I've said many times. I just happen to think that the phrase is absolutely hilarious, as I've also said many times. It's certainly not out of some kind of bitter abandonment issue. Not that I expect you or anyone else to remember anything I've ever said, but you shouldn't make assumptions either.

The Pens were not out played in the first period. Out of the 16 shots they gave up 12 or 13 of them were low probability shots from the blueline or along the boards, and Johnson was seeing them all the way in. Caputi looked like he belonged in the show, lets hope it was not just first game excitement.

Colby Armstrong deserves only one thing when he comes here. . .to have his ass handed to him whenever he steps on the ice.

His only saving grace is that, on top of being a nobody, he plays for a franchise that is a virtual nullity, so its okay to have some unsubstantiated love affair with him.

Maybe I'm old school, but I don't like the Pens opponents. Do I hate them all? Certainly not, but I sure don't consider myself their fans. COLBY ARMSTRONG IS AN OPPONENT. HE DOESN'T PLAY HERE ANYMORE, AND HE NEVER WILL AGAIN.

Get over it.

I hope he gets traded to the Flyers. . . .then maybe a few Colby fans will kill themselves.

I bet that Bylsma would argue with you there. The Pens couldn't establish a forecheck or get any sustained offensive zone time in the first 10 or 15 minutes. 11-1 disadvantage in shots is being outplayed when your game is puck possession.

Kovalchuk would make Chicago really (more) dangerous, especially if they add him at the trade deadline. But they'd be giving up a ton in return. At least with the Hossa deal, Shero didn't give up too much, or any key parts of the team. As much as I loved Army, Sharp is a better player and way more important to the Hawks. Sounds like I'm glad to not have been a part of whatever shit was going down in cblog last night. The Dicktoucher Advisory has been on Orange Alert for 5 games now. Not sure who "Pittsburghler" is, but he may push the advisory to Red before long.

Seriously, dude, you're a fuckwit. Put your thumbs back in your ass so that we don't need to deal with your asinine shit any longer. I can only imagine the kind of diarrhea that would come out of his fingers if I started talking about my continuing man-love for Rob Scuderi.

I was too busy flipping back and forth between this game and the amazing USA/Canada tilt.

Unfortunately, I had to listen to Pierre Maguire juggle Jordan Eberle's balls in his mouth for about 40 mins. last night until John Carlson shut him up. God that was a great sound in Saskatoon after the OT winner--stunned silence.

Get used to it Canada, you'll be shocked in the round robin in Vancouver by a bunch of young (other than Drury) Americans. Ohhhhhhhhh I'm jizzing my pants now.

I understand I have had some bizarre man crushes on players in the past (Eric Cairns Laraque Biznasty)and I still do to a certain extent but if they aren't here anymore then f them

Oh DA, you underestimate Don Waddell. Pierre Lebrun mentioned Cam Barker and Kris Versteeg as potential fodder in a Kovalchuck trade.

Anyone who thinks the Hawks couldn't do this because of cap issues.. just remember that they know he's a rental. They're probably not interested in trying to sign him to term. They want to win now and the new contracts to Kane, Towes, and Keith don't kick in until next season. If they can trade away enough salary to cover Kovalchuck's current hit (6.39 mil) they take care of two issues: 1. Get another elite scoring winger. 2. Shed salary to ease cap concerns next season.

Waddell is kind of screwed because the other GM's know that the Thrashers are trying to salvage a return on Kovalchuck. If they had traded him earlier in the season, they probably would've gotten more.

If the Hawks think they can keep the right combination of people and also secure Kovalchuck they'll do it with the understanding that it's a 4 month (if they're lucky) rental.

The Hawks can't pay the salaries they have lined up for next year (already at $61 mil., and they need to fill another 4-5 roster spots). So they have to find a way to move multi-million dollar players. Why not do it when you've got your best shot at a Cup? Obviously Campbell would be the best guy to move for them, given the cap constraints and how much the guy makes. Not only that, Atlanta has plenty of cap space. But in order to take on that huge contract, the Hawks are going to need to give up something valuable. Versteeg (and maybe Skille) might be that extra chip, and in return, the Thrashers may throw in another pending UFA like Army or Afinogenov.

Makes sense from both standpoints to me. And yeah, they'd be scary good with Ilya for the stretch run.

#39 PensFan2166 2010-01-06 10:34
@Stilly - Yes, that's exactly the point I made absolutely no effort to make. Chicago is in "win now" mode, but by shedding some long-term salary for a rental, they can increase their odds this season while clearing up some cap issues for next season and beyond.

@Kovalchukblog - A team I wouldn't be surprised to see make a move for Kovalchuk is the LA Kings. As I understand it, they have some cap space, a stable of young (cheap) talent and they need somebody to help carry the load with Kopitar. I like Frolov, but he is streakier than your mom's underwear and the rumors that they're unhappy with Frolov have persisted for like 4 years now. If the Kings are in a decent playoff position, I'd think they'd be another team to enter the Kovalchuk derby and they may be more likely to land him than most other teams who covet him.

Wait, I thought the Pens were trading Staal for Frolov?

woooooooooooooo

#41 dying alive 2010-01-06 10:38
I guess I misunderstood their interest - I can totally see them wanting Kovalchuk for the trade deadline and making salary room for him (though if they give up somebody like Versteeg and don't win, it sucks for them). My question was more regarding how they'd be able to re-sign him. It makes more sense to me if that's not their intention and they'd be letting him walk in FA.

Not that it'll ever happen because I'm sure they'll find takers for anybody they try to move (even a sucker who'll take Campbell) but what would happen if they were over the salary cap and just couldn't shed the salary necessary to get under it? Would they have to start waiving people? I wonder if that's ever happened before. Not that I recall offhand, but I don't pay a lot of attention to the cap unless it involves the Pens.

@DA - I am not sure what all happens when a team goes over the cap - I think surrendering draft picks and huge fines are among the penalties - but check around for news on the Calgary Flames last season. Remember when they were icing 16-man rosters for a week or two last season? It was because they were too close to the cap and couldn't bring any players up without going over the cap, and since none of their injured players were injured seriously enough to be put on IR (i.e. - wouldn't be out of the lineup for at least 2-3 weeks), they were forced to shorten their bench.

The sad thing is, despite Talbot's unquestioned legendary status, it might be an upgrade, the way things are looking.

How bad do you want it, Colby fans? Would you make that trade?

If they are over the cap really bad crossing the stream stuff starts, like forcing them to send players to the AHL(ie exposing players to waivers) or they get their scrotums nailed to the floor(which in the case of Don Waddell a super idea) or other unpleasantness.

I'd love to see Kovy go to the KHL and take Captain Cave Man with him.

People like Army because he's funny as hell and generally a good guy. He's not that great a hockey player and he's one of the dirtiest players I've ever watched. I love the guy, but I don't give a fuck about him now. Just like Bobby Scuds, Ho$$a, Malone, etc. They ain't Pens, so fuck em. Some of yinz better get your last hugs in with some of the current roster cuz I think some of em are headed out the door soon.

You're probably spot on about the waiving. I mean the Pens did it last year with Satan. The only problem is the exposure. They might be able to sneak Campbell through waivers because his contract is an albatross. I don't know that many people would want to take it on outright. So he'd clear down, but he would be gone in re-entry waivers.

Man.. I was just trying to put together a package that could maybe net the Pens Kovalchuck.. and I don't think it's feasible.

It was really a shock to see how the salary is distributed throughout the lineup. I don't think there are pieces that Shero would be willing to part with that carry enough salary to net Kovalchuck. Kunitz is the obvious choice here, and Waddell would probably be receptive to the term associated with that contract. After that it gets dicey. You can't get rid enough salary in your forward group alone. Maybe something that contains Kunitz, Fedotenko, and Eaton. Probably not likely since both Fedotenko and Eaton are UFA next season.

I don't think the math works out, but I'm not an NHL GM either. In any case, it's going to be interesting to see what happens next season in regards to FA's. Fedotenko, Guerin, Cooke, Gonchar, Eaton, McKee, and Skoula are UFA. Letang is the only RFA not yet signed to a contract. Word is that Gonchar is receptive to a paycut, and that Letang wants something in the neighborhood of 4 years 16 mil. So don't be surprised to hear Letang's name in rumors.

Edit: I sound like a complete tool in the first paragraph. Like I can put together a package for anything. Joke.

I wouldn't make the trade of Max for Armstrong - you'd be making a trade of equivalent skill sets while taking on double the salary. Bad move in general.

The Hockey News had an article a couple weeks ago going through each team in the NHL and listing the 1 or 2 players who are their best trade bait. THN listed Max Talbot as the Pens best (of the most likely) trade candidates and speculated there could be a fair amount of interest in him.

Thing is that LA would probably want to sign him long term. That complicates matters. I read somewhere that Waddell doesn't want to make an extension part of the deal. I assume that to mean he doesn't want to make the trade contingent on the destination team extending his contract. He just wants to trade him as is and be done with it. I would venture to guess that LA wouldn't want to pull the trigger on a deal unless it was contingent on him signing to term.

Agreed, but any team that pulls the trigger on a deal for Kovalchuk without having an extension already in place is rolling the dice. I'm not so sure if Kovalchuk demanding the max. cap hit is what he really wants or if he's only saying that because he knows the Thrashers won't do it and will deal him away. I would be willing to venture that he'd take a little less (probably not a Sid or Geno discount, but a discount) to play for a team that is set up to win/contend. Marian Hossa pretty much drew up the blueprint for Ilya Kovalchuk on how to get out of Atlanta and play for a contender.

Anybody who boos Jagr is a certified grade-a dicktoucher. I remember wanting to give that guy an HJ when the only fucking words he could say was "I like Kit-Kat."

Its not that I want to blow Army. I think he fits into a role that Kunitz plays at a cheaper (and slightly less productive) rate.

If any of you math geniuses can figure out how to sign 8 free agents with the 11.8 million in salary they are all playing with, find a possible replacement for Bill Guerin and his 2 million a year and manage to sign Jay McKee who is playing for basically room and board I'd like to hear it.

The fact is that Shero is going to be making some tough decisions and this is the time of year he starts making them. If I had my way I wouldn't fuck with the chemistry on this team one bit, but at least Armstrong is a known quantity and has chemistry with some of the players already.

Plus it was kinda sad listening to how emo he was during our first cup run.

Luca is changing things up and I'm glad. Maybe he's going to be the next Talbot/Letang/Kennedy star that comes up from WBS.

But until Tangradi is ready, we need someone who will play with some heart and some grit on Sid's line at a reasonable rate.

If Sir Buries It can make Rob Brown a freaking all star, you could put a fire hydrant (that could check please) on Crosby's line and he'd score 30.

I don't think Malkin sucks, I don't think we should send him to the baby pens or back to Russia or anything like that, even before last year, there are just some things he does that I don't like and he's by far not my favorite.

For some reason some people just seem to believe (I am not saying you or anyone else in particular) just seem to think that everyone has to automatically be in love with the big guns. I appreciate what they do most of the time, but I guess I just tend to be slow at jumping on the bandwagon. Most of the time.

@PF2166 - WHAAAA?!?! Your favorite players list includes players from OTHER TEAMS? Well that's just not allowed.

Unfortunately I was introduced to hockey late in life (when I came out here for college) so I'm still catching up a bit, but I grew up a huge baseball fan, and I'm the same way there (obviously it goes for any sport). It was for the best though... If I had been into hockey growing up I probably would have ended up either a Flyers or a Devils fan. The sheer thought makes me want to curl up in the fetal position and cry.

Anyhow, after every goal, the guy's wife would walk up and down the aisle and high five everyone. The guy also said we should send Malkin back to Russia, and that he is worthless as a player.

Then there is some guy down in E16 I believe who screams "Bury the biscuit" the entire game, even when the other team has the puck.

I think anyone who WOOOS at the game needs an instant rick flair chest slap. People at the mellon do stupid shit all the time. Like booing the canadian national anthem in the playoffs a few years ago. I heard two slob's in the beer line talking about how they would never applaud for brodeur, "we will never see a goalie like that, but I would never clap for that guy". When we got shutout me and the pops we on our feet clapping. I love the pens first and foremost but I also love hockey in general. Everything except for Filthy I can usually deal with.

I think it's assumed but not confirmed yet. AFAIK he won't be competing with anybody else for the number, so it's probably pretty likely.

I'll agree with the people who think the woo-ing is annoying. Especially after like ten minutes of it. Everything in moderation, people.

And as far as players I like or whatever, it's nobody else's fucking business who my favorite players are or whose jersey I wear. If Malkin isn't your favorite player, it's your prerogative. Unless you start advocating retarded trade proposals or sending him to WBS, I'm not sure why anyone would care.

D22 has a guy like that too! Every time a D-man or someone on the point touches the puck he's screaming shoot. The best is when someone walks to their seats during the game though. He goes off the deep end yelling at them to wait to the whistle. The one time he did it, play was all the way to the right so he could still see it and he was still screaming at people.

Nothing beats the guy behind me saying "trade staal for kovalchuk", I about died.

We all know that ESPN is the #1 source for hockey info on the web and here are some gems to support that argument.

Norris Candidates: Chris Pronger, Philadelphia Flyers: He has held up his part of the bargain even if his team has struggled.
^^^
joke
J. Adams Candidates: Mike Babcock, Detroit Red Wings: The toughest coaching job he has had in his career with all the massive injuries.
^^^
If that's the criteria for a great coach, why isn't HCDB on the list? All 6 starting D-Men injured, not to mention all of the forwards that were on the shelf. Plus the Pens are 4th in the East, Detroit is 5 pts out of 8th. Looks like Maguire isnt the only Pee-air who needs to get a (Bab)cock out of his mouth

His argument falters when he offers up Parise as a nominee.....
he's doing well this year but aren't the Devils doing well cause it's the Marty show this year, not cause Parise has been some kind of offensive powerhouse?

I only see the Devils when the Pens play them, but it seemed to me that Parise went through a bit of a scoring slump in December. His stats seems to be pretty good now, but he's not a world beater. He's on pace for about 86 points including 36 goals and 50 assists. That projection is down from his Hart nomination numbers last season (45g-49a-94p).

the game was awesome..seeing as it was the first one i got to go to this season i was excited to say the least...staal is a monster right now..and as soon as the geno chant started somewhere near my section he decided he actually wanted to play hockey and got the break and caputi got the rebound. so lets keep up the geno chant. Props to Caputi he looked good had some nice plays :) cant wait to kick some flyer but on thursdayy

Another note: geno seemed to really get into it when the crowd started doing the "geno" chant. Started doing it right before the Caputi goal.

I disagree... It appeared as though he faltered a few times before getting that assist with the chants.

I was disappointed though... The Geno chant guy was right behind me, and just about everytime he did it, Geno would turn it over, so my friend and I tried to start a Luca chant (which after we tried to start it, he scored)...

Fuckin' idiots didn't follow, even after he scored... It was just the two of us and maybe the 2 people sitting behind us. Gay.

But that Caputi fist pump... Had to impregnate a few women in the front row...

The Army fans? I saw too many, and most of them were morbidly obese, middle-aged women. Some extremely fat bitch (who was wearing an Armstrong Thrashers shersey backwards so Armstrong was on the front) kept banging on the glass everytime he passed her. The one time he stopped and she started screaming at him and he gave her this look like "That's nice you fucking crazy cow."

Not to mention there was some jobber 2 rows in front of me with a fucking Steelers shirt...

I was visually scarred... I also saw a woman do the same, but with an old Hedberg jersey, but she wasn't as crazy or as fat as the bitch in the Army shirt... She got an acknowledgement from the Moose and I thought that was pretty classy by him.

Good lord...Milbury writes an article and it all makes sense to me:

Milbury on Kovalchuk:

Quote:
Give the GM, who has been more than fair to you and your client, a list of teams you would be willing to go to. Let him make a deal contingent on your completing a contract with whatever sucker thinks Kovy will turn the franchise around. Too much to ask? Apparently. These are the negotiations that make your stomach turn. Kovy is no Crosby. Kovy is more Kovalev.

I hope we get Armstrong on the team so he can either A) Cheapshot people or B) Miss a Cheapshot leading to a huge scoring chance for the other team.

Remember last night when Colby threw himself at Armstrong just before Fedotenko's PP goal? That was pretty awesome, I'm glad he's such a sound player.

I mean, then again, you only know what I'm talking about if you take these off:

I'm sorry Colby Armstrong was funny and a silly guy with Sidney Crosby and put up some decent numbers. Andy fucking Hilbert had 18 points in 19 games playing with Crosby in 05-06, why aren't you clamoring for his return from the Houston Aeros? Oh, right, because he was a mediocre talent who was made to look better by Crosby.

To summarize: Fuck Colby Armstrong.

Don't I know it...I have stated my disgust for the man any number of times. But that is what I found so alarming about the fact that his article seemed to make sense. Of course, now I am reading that there is no $10 million deal that Kovalchuk is walking away from and that's pretty much what Milbury's comments were predicated on. I did like that bit about Kovalchuk not being Crosby, though...

Kudos to Sweet Luuuuu for his 2nd(?) NHL goal.

it's unfortunate that the Pens first win in 2010 was kinda overshadowed by the USA juniors getting gold.

but hey, the USA juniors getting gold is still overshadowed by GAME 7 of the stanley cup finals 2009.

Either that was somebody else writing under Milbury's name, or it's the first sign of a world careening toward destruction. Seriously tho I think Milbury's right on. Kovachoo can't carry a team himself, if he wants the big money then sign and stay, otherwise work with the team to get a trade done that works out for everybody.

Maybe classy is an inappropriate word for it. But I don't know, not a big fan of Pens fan-on-Pens fan violence or the whole "middle aged morbidly obese bitches" thing. They're Pens fans, why job them for no reason? I'm sure everyone commenting on the appearance of others should be walking the runways in Milan, but people are just so nasty around here anymore. For real, BNG. I'm tired of it all. The dicktoucher alert system is still at Orange.

First off, people need to stop baselessly jobbing players. Some joke was in cblog two games ago talking about how shitty Malkin is, much like someone in F17 apparently was last night. Shut it, turdnugget. We don't care that you were late to the "job Chris Bourque" bandwagon and now want to start a new one.

Second, people need to stop jobbing the hell out of people who love former players. Know what? We still like some of them. I'm not personally an Army fan, but hey, I get it. He was in the original "Superstar" ad. I'll probably always be a Scuderi fan, and Hal Gill will retain a soft spot in my heart. Anyone jobbing me for either can blow me. Period. They won a Cup here by blocking shots. That's more than any cblogger's done to bring a Cup to Pittsburgh.

Finally, take a deep breath. We're going through exactly what we went through last year. A trying time at mid-season, bringing the clownshoes out of the closet. April will be here before you know it.

Go Pens. And just for Stoosh:

[Caputi]

This is me being very, very late to the party.

You all have to understand...if you find yourself in a section with someone holding a Charlie sign THAT big, you should have some idea right off the bat of what you're going to be in for that night. You can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen...that's what I say. I'm pretty sure that in my time in 212 of the WAaCP, my cheering and general antics have chased quite a few people out of the section. Fine...whatever. You can't handle it, leave. I'm sure as hell not going to change my act because you're an uppity (insert noun here).

Regarding the fan-chanting-WHOO discussion. I'm going to be forever in support of it, because the WHOO chant is a regular feature of game nights in WBS. After every goal announcement, the PA guy concludes his message with a resounding "WHOO!", which is answered by the crowd. It goes to my earlier point...if you can't take it, get out. You're not going to tone us down.

Bring the noise on Thursday. Show these uppity (insert noun here) what being a hockey fan is about. GO PENS.

Speaking of retards, the Flyers are in extra-tard mode tonight against the Leafs. Hartnell picked a fight with Jeff Finger (of the nine penalty minutes on the season). Side show Carcillo gets dropped by Mayers and jags it up for the crowd on the way to the box. Idiots... Tomorrow night they'll be well behaved children, after they get a spanking by the Pens. Godz, I hate that franchise...

We'll manage. We always do. Tonight was a 5-4 loss at home to Norfolk, but I don't think Curry was completely on his game; he got yanked after allowing three goals.

Just know...if you call up either Nick Johnson, Dustin Jeffrey, or Mark Letestu at this point, I'm coming in here and cracking heads. That line is straight-up psycho-hot at the moment...generating two of WBS's four tonight all by themselves (that is to say, one of the three gets the goal, the other two get the assists on said goal).
