PRESEASON GAMEDAY 8: One more for the road.

Seems like this happens every year. The initial excitement for the open of training camp slowly turns into the loathing of everything preseason. But then, before you know it, the regular season is about to hit you like an SUV driven by Caitlyn Jenner. We’re almost there. Buckle-up, buckaroos.

Season Preview: Rob Scuderi – Philadelphia

Rob Scuderi as a Tom Hanks movie Had to go with “Philadelphia” for Scuderi since everyone hates his guts. We were going to use Beau Bennett but didn’t have the courage. Tom Hanks’ speech after winning the Oscar for Best Actor exudes class.   Last Season Recap If you Google “Rob Scuderi” right now, you […]

Season Preview: David Perron – Polar Express

David Perron as a Tom Hanks movie “Polar Express.” The coldest player in the NHL right now.   Last Season Recap David Perron was like Kate Gosselin. Started off kind of hot but went through some kind of transformation and turned into a joke. He had 9 goals in his first 16 games as a Penguin […]

Season Preview: Chris Kunitz – You’ve Got Mail

Chris Kunitz as a Tom Hanks movie This was an easy choice: “You’ve Got Mail” Only because Kunitz has mailed it in since some time in 2013. Also, how dated is “You’ve Got Mail”? The main characters owned bookstores and they fostered their relationship via AOL Mail. Today they would have hooked up on Tinder, and […]

Daniel Sprong is Worth a Nine Game Tryout

The Penguins enter the 2015-16 NHL season boasting some of the finest offensive depth they’ve had since they lifted the Stanley Cup in 2009. The days of fourth line anchors that made the Penguins a top heavy, offensively thin hockey club have been abandoned with the signings of Nick Bonino, Matt Cullen, and Eric Fehr. […]

Link City: Roster Cuts, Sid Is Still The Best, and Champagne Goggles

Here is what you might have missed with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the NHL, and Erreything else. It’s been a long off season…   But it’s October…time to celebrate… THE PITTSBURGH PENGUINS – BYE Tom… – The Pens cut their preseason roster 18 players after their three straight games this week. Pre Gm 7 Wings

Thoughts: Preseason Game 7 – Preseason Never Ends

Red Wings 7  Pens 2 I had some issues with the online stream, so the spreadsheet and penalties definitely aren’t as accurate as I’d like them to be for this game. Goals Sprong (PP) from Perron, Kessel Bennett (PP) from Pouliot, Gonchar Penalties Gonchar (slashing) – Stupid? (slashes Nosek at the end of the first […]

PRESEASON GAMEDAY 7: Pens host the Wings at CONSOL

The Pens trumped Tampa Bay last night 4-2 in the inaugural Hockeyville USA game. Despite the fact that this was a preseason event thought up by a cheese company which included an infinite amount of Slapshot references, it was good for the people of Johnstown to see the Pens get a win at their local rink. Two things glaringly stood […]

Penguins Sale: Ron Burkle has lost half his net worth since 2010

Hey remember when the Penguins were going to get that offer? [ Pittsburgh Business Times ] Well since that June report all has gone quiet. And with the season fast approaching – questions about the financial health of Mr. Ron Burkle might be incoming. According to a Forbes article today he has fallen out of […]

PRESEASON GAMEDAY 6: Pens-Lightning Square Off in Johnstown

The French-Canadian Penguins didn’t exactly impress last night in Quebec City, but tonight the Pens will send another split-squad to Johnstown, PA to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning. We typically loathe the preseason for numerous reasons. It’s too long. Hell, the regular season itself is probably too long. Outside of the opportunity to see […]

Did You Know They Made It In Johnstown?: A Running Diary of Slap Shot

They sure did. And now the newly renovated War Memorial Arena will host a preseason game between the Penguins and the Eastern Conference champion Tampa Bay Lightning tonight, with a plethora of Slap Shot references, specials, and general distractions from the fact that this is just a meaningless preseason game in which Sid and […]

Thoughts: Preseason Game 5 – French Canadian Pens lose

Canadiens 4  Pens 1 Games at neutral sites don’t have regular statisticians, thus the lack of normal stats in this one. Goals Bennett (PP) from Rust Penalties Perron (interference) – Unnecessary (knocks Scherbak over well after the puck has slid past him for interference) Letang (high-sticking, 4 mins) – Careless (lifts his stick as he’s […]

PRESEASON GAMEDAY 5: Pens take on the Canadiens in Quebec City

It’s only a matter of time before Quebec City gets a hockey team again. Tonight, they’ll have to settle for the Pens and Habs in an exhibition game. The puck drops at 7:00 EST. As far as we know, the game will not be televised locally. The Pens play three consecutive games this week – […]

Tom Sestito

Thoughts: Preseason Game 4 – Pens get Sestito-ed in loss

Blue Jackets 4  Pens 2 I’m still working on formatting, etc. through the preseason, but I’ll have a template set and an explanation of what I do in these before the regular season. Thanks! Goals Crosby from Kessel, Kunitz Kessel from Plotnikov, Cole OT Winner: Crosby from Clendening, Sprong Penalties Cullen (goalie interference) – Bad […]

Pens and Erreything Else: September 25th, 2015

Here is what you might have missed with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the NHL, and Erreything Else.  It’s more fun than convincing yourself it was just a preseason game. THE PITTSBURGH PENGUINS – Rough night for the kinda-B team.  Just can’t score goals.  You should read the quick thoughts and Meesh’s Deep Thoughts for in depth […]

Thoughts: Preseason Game 3 – Yawn. Pens lose in regulation and win in OT

Red Wings 6  Pens 1 I’m still working on formatting, etc. through the preseason, but I’ll have a template set and an explanation of what I do in these before the regular season. Thanks! Goals Bennett (1) from O’Neill, Kuhnhackl OT Goal: Sundqvist (1) (SH) from Malkin Penalties Scuderi (tripping) – Good (Will O’Neill gets […]

What You Missed: Pens’ B Squad can’t score goals

Woof. You can chalk it up to these jobbers trying to show they can play in a system, which, honestly, is the only way they’re gonna make this year’s Penguins roster. It’s a battle for the fourth line. The jobbers couldn’t find the net in Columbus, the A Squad looked like a villain from The […]

PRESEASON GAMEDAY 3: Pens at Detroit

It’s hard not to read too much into preseason games. The Pens toasted the Canes 7-3 Tuesday night in Pittsburgh. Kessel and Crosby looked sharp, the young guys did some stuff, even Gonch got in on the scoring. I can’t recall the last time we were all collectively invested in a preseason game and overwhelmingly excited about […]

Pens and Erreything Else: September 23rd, 2015

Here is what you might have missed with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the NHL, and Erreything else.  It’s more fun that finding something to do on a day off from hockey. THE PITTSBURGH PENGUINS – So I didn’t get to watch the game last night due to a conflict and a lack of free computer time […]

Thoughts: Preseason Game 2 – Goals, Hot Dogs, and Phil Kessel

Pens 7  Hurricanes 3 I’m still working on formatting, etc. through the preseason, but I’ll have a template set and an explanation of what I do in these before the regular season. Thanks!
