The Columbus Blue Jackets Are Still Whining

The Pittsburgh Penguins have been pretty mum in regards to the on-ice assault by Brandon Dubinsky on Sidney Crosby this weekend. I’m not going to dignify the event by calling it a hockey play of any kind. It wasn’t. The sooner we can understand that, the better off the NHL is going to be. Despite […]

Thoughts: Game 23 – Malkin Carries Pens to a Point in 3-2 (SO) Loss

Oilers 3  Pens 2 (SO) Record: 13-8-2, 28 pts Goals Malkin (10) unassisted Malkin (11) (PP) from Letang, Crosby Penalties Scuderi (tripping) – Bad (loses Nugent-Hopkins skating past him on the outside and goes down to trip him to prevent a scoring chance) Clendening (slashing) – Unnecessary (misses the puck when Draisaitl lifts his stick, […]

Game 23 Recap: A tale of two teams. Oilers pull out extra point

Watch these two clips.

The first was the Penguins on their bench at some point in the first period:

Now, watch this from the Oilers side. This comes during OT. The Oilers call a timeout to set up their powerplay:

The Oilers coach, Todd Mclellan, is laughing with his team. The Oilers are loose, their body language is just so much different than the Penguins.

While the Oilers didn’t score, they did end up winning in the shootout. Two teams, organizations headed in different directions it feels.

Incredible reactions by Columbus fans regarding the Dubinsky/Crosby incident

Honestly all that was missing from Dubinsky/Crosby was Scott Hartnell coming off the bench and hitting Crosby with a steel chair while Johnny Torts held Mike Johnston back. In case you didn’t see it: The NHL department of safety, otherwise known as Brian Burke’s family tree met with Dubinsky on Saturday. After probably high-fiving Dubinsky, […]

Thoughts: Game 22 – Hockey is Ugly. Pens Lose 2-1 in OT.

Blue Jackets 2  Pens 1 (OT) Record: 13-8-1, 27 pts Goals Malkin (9) (PP) from Crosby, Kessel Penalties Cole (hooking) – Bad (gets caught flat-footed as Foligno skates past him and puts his stick into Foligno’s hands for a hook) Malkin (slashing) – Stupid (gets pushed around in front of the Blue Jackets net, then […]

Game 22 Recap: Ohio sucks. Pens lose in OT.

What a game. This was that really good shit that reminds you why you got addicted in the first place. NHL games night in and night out get really stale without the kind of playoff fire that this game had. What made it a playoff-like atmosphere? Blue Jackets fans obviously can’t be happy when […]

Thoughts: Game 21 – Rift Between Pens and Blues Ends with 4-3 (OT) Win

Pens 4  Blues 3 (OT) Record: 13-8-0, 26 pts Goals Crosby (4) from Dupuis Crosby (5) (PP) from Malkin, Letang Lovejoy (2) from Perron, Letang Malkin (8) from Kessel, Lovejoy Penalties Cole (holding the stick) – Unnecessary (puts his left arm in front of Backes and grabs his stick as they’re trying to get to […]

The Perfect Power-Play Breakout

The Penguins power-play hasn’t been all that good this season and that might be the understatement of the century. On a roster oozing with talent, it’s almost inconceivable that the Penguins have struggled as much as they have with the man-advantage. Between early season coaching decisions to split up one of the best scoring duos […]

Must-read of the week (and year): Bryan Trottier’s letter to his younger self

The Players Tribune has had some of the best pieces of the year. But Bryan Trottier’s letter to his younger self might top them all. Especially if you grew up a Penguin fan. Trottier’s letter is riddled with incredible Penguin stories. On Badger Bob; Your coach in Pittsburgh will be “Badger” Bob Johnson. Appreciate this […]

Thoughts: Game 20 – Unfortunate Bounces Lead to Unfortunate 3-1 Loss for Pens

Sharks 3  Pens 1 Record: 12-8-0, 24 pts Goals Kessel (7) (PP) from Hornqvist, Crosby Penalties Hornqvist (interference) – Unnecessary (skates along the blue line and collides into Braun to take him down as Braun is backing up into that same area with Malkin carrying the puck) Kunitz (interference) – Unnecessary (lets his skate hit […]
