The only good thing about this 3-0 Penguin loss is that it was probably was more of a blimp in the pattern, then an indication of how things are going to go. Under Mike Johnston, if the Pens were down 2-0, they had no chance at coming back. Under Mike Sullivan you almost feel like it is expected they comeback.
Sullivan had a really good quote after the game:
Sullivan says Penguins need to learn to play in low-scoring games. Cautions against becoming high-risk by forcing offense in games like this

That’s exactly what happened in this game. The Penguins have been shredding teams with offense, but when they ran into the King and all his men they struggled to find anything. The loss sucks, because losing the Rangers is the worst. But hearing Mike Sullivan say that tells you he’s so much more aware of what the hell to do than Mike Johnston. Again, hard to believe Mike Johnston was actually an NHL coach, and people thought it was a good idea. ( Still can’t get over it.)
You also have to factor in the Penguins are playing without Evgeni Malkin, and Phil Kessel has shown up in February as many times as that groundhog.
Speaking of which…
Where is Phil Kessel?
Last five games:
Kessel has made some nice passes, but he wasn’t really brought here to make sick saucer passes. He makes 8.8 million dollars. His cap hit is 6.8 million. Kessel has four goals since the year 2016 started. And in one game he had two of those four. He’s streaky, but so is your cat’s memory.
And he isn’t exactly making up for it with great defensive play. NBCSN caught this moment:
Hopefully when Malkin gets back he can get Kessel going, but right now Kessel is fighting it.
The Curse of Dominic Moore
At the time we said this about that trade:
To date, since that trade the Penguins have played a team with Moore on it ( including playoffs) 46 times not counting tonight. It feels like Moore’s teams are like 45-1 against the Penguins and Moore has 15 goals and 40 points.
In reality he only has four goals in now 47 games, and his teams are like 26-20 against the Pens. No idea why it feels worse. He is 4-0 in the playoff against them, but still it feels weird. Moore of course scored in this game, look at his face when he shoots this puck:
It’s like he scream ” DICK” before he shoot it. This goal made it 2-0 at the point of the third period where it really just felt like the game was over.
Andrew W goal-less
Based on the PSAMP movement, the Penguins flew Andrew WK in, and set him up with the Arena organ, and apparently gave him a mircophone in the stands to sing the “Party Hard” song:

And the hockey gods had other ideas.
– Boring, boring game.
– Trevor Daley got hurt.
-What makes this season unique compared to other Penguin seasons is that we’ll see the Penguins win one game and be on cloud nine. And then lose and game, and be worried as fuck that they might not make the playoffs
