The Penguins and Draft Kings combine for the worst thing ever

Do less, Penguins.     So just think, you could hire all your friends as associate GM’s, hire a peewee coach, trade some prospects for horrible players, try to kill Rob Rossi after a game and you would only be half as bad as the real GM of the Penguins. Good times.

Thoughts: Game 53 – The Rangers Ruin Everything. Pens Lose 3-0.

Rangers 3  Pens 0 Record: 27-19-7, 61 pts Goals None Penalties K. Letang (high-sticking) – Careless (battles with Klein for a loose puck in the Rangers zone and lifts his stick into Klein’s face) Notable Forwards WBS Players ↔ – The lack of goals is obviously a disappointment, but the WBS lines still looked good […]

Game 53 Recap: Party Soft. Pens shutdown by Rangers

The only good thing about this 3-0 Penguin loss is that it was probably was more of a blimp in the pattern, then an indication of how things are going to go. Under Mike Johnston, if the Pens were down 2-0, they had no chance at coming back. Under Mike Sullivan you almost feel like it is expected they comeback.

Sullivan had a really good quote after the game:

That’s exactly what happened in this game. The Penguins have been shredding teams with offense, but when they ran into the King and all his men they struggled to find anything. The loss sucks, because losing the Rangers is the worst. But hearing Mike Sullivan say that tells you he’s so much more aware of what the hell to do than Mike Johnston. Again, hard to believe Mike Johnston was actually an NHL coach, and people thought it was a good idea. ( Still can’t get over it.)

You also have to factor in the Penguins are playing without Evgeni Malkin, and Phil Kessel has shown up in February as many times as that groundhog.

Speaking of which…

Where is Phil Kessel?

Last five games:

Screen Shot 2016-02-10 at 11.21.23 PM

Kessel has made some nice passes, but he wasn’t really brought here to make sick saucer passes. He makes 8.8 million dollars. His cap hit is 6.8 million. Kessel has four goals since the year 2016 started. And in one game he had two of those four. He’s streaky, but so is your cat’s memory.

And he isn’t exactly making up for it with great defensive play. NBCSN caught this moment:

Hopefully when Malkin gets back he can get Kessel going, but right now Kessel is fighting it.

The Curse of Dominic Moore

Little trip down memory lane. February 27, 2007:Screen Shot 2016-02-10 at 10.39.31 PM

At the time we said this about that trade:

Screen Shot 2016-02-10 at 10.45.20 PM

To date, since that trade the Penguins have played a team with Moore on it ( including playoffs) 46 times not counting tonight. It feels like Moore’s teams are like 45-1 against the Penguins and Moore has 15 goals and 40 points.

In reality he only has four goals in now 47 games, and his teams are like 26-20 against the Pens. No idea why it feels worse. He is 4-0 in the playoff against them, but still it feels weird. Moore of course scored in this game, look at his face when he shoots this puck:

It’s like he scream ” DICK” before he shoot it. This goal made it 2-0 at the point of the third period where it really just felt like the game was over.

Andrew W goal-less

Based on the PSAMP movement, the Penguins flew Andrew WK in, and set him up with the Arena organ, and apparently gave him a mircophone in the stands to sing the “Party Hard” song:

And the hockey gods had other ideas.

Other stuff

– Boring, boring game.

– Trevor Daley got hurt.

-What makes this season unique compared to other Penguin seasons is that we’ll see the Penguins win one game and be on cloud nine. And then lose and game, and be worried as fuck that they might not make the playoffs

GAMEDAY 53: Pens shoot for seven straight wins at home, face the crybaby Rangers with @AndrewWK in the house.

New York Rangers (30-18-5) at Pittsburgh Penguins (27-18-7) 8:00 PM EST – NBCSN CONSOL Energy Center – Pittsburgh, PA The first few dreadful months of this season are becoming an afterthought lately thanks to some signature wins and the unrealistic play we’ve seen from Sidney Crosby. Tonight, the Pens have a chance to make another statement when […]

Thoughts: Game 52 – Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosbys the Penguins to a 6-2 Win over Anaheim

GAME 52 RECAP: That’s Sidney Crosby’s Music. Pens roll again.

We’re getting to the point now where we’ll soon be past the “Man, the Penguins look completely different under Mike Sullivan” phase. We’re not exactly sure what the next phase will be, but it’s just great to be pumped about the Penguins again. It doesn’t hurt when they score three goals in the first period […]

Thoughts: Game 50 – Quick Start Not Enough as Pittsburgh/WBS Loses to Tampa, 6-3.

Lightning 6  Pens 3 Record: 25-18-7, 57 pts Goals Hornqvist (11) from Kunitz, Pouliot Crosby (21) from Kunitz, Hornqvist Cullen (6) from Kessel Penalties Letang (roughing) – Stupid (takes a high elbow to the face from Filppula during a puck battle, then retaliates by dropping his stick and pushing Filppula in the back twice, then […]

GAME 50 RECAP: Broken Down Fleury

Here’s how the game went in one pic: It felt like the Pens had no chance in Hell of winning this game. People were freaking out that Malkin was out for maybe two games and that Eric Fehr is gonna be out for a month. It’s far from the end of the world. The Florida […]

Thoughts: Game 49 – Crosby’s Natural Hat Trick Puts Away Senators in 6-5 Win

Pens 6  Senators 5 Record: 25-17-7, 57 pts Goals Cullen (5) from Hagelin, Dumoulin Letang (7) from Crosby, Kunitz Kunitz (9) unassisted Crosby (18) (PP) from Letang, Malkin Crosby (19) (PP) from Kessel, Malkin Crosby (20) from Kunitz, Hornqvist Penalties Kuhnhackl (embellishment) – Bad Call (grabs the arm of Cowen as Cowen is holding him […]

GAME 49 RECAP: Saved by the Crossbar. Penguins hold on for another W

Remember back when the Penguins got Phil Kessel over the summer and everyone thought there would be games like 6-5 every night. And then Mike Johnston ruined hockey for half the year? Knowing the NHL like we think we do, this game is probably a foreshadowing of what the next 33 games are going to […]

The Sudden Death II story we never finished

So back in 2010 we, Rick City, and Stephen S started talking about making a story about Sudden Death II. When we (Derek and Adam) started the blog long ago, we did a story called “Jobbers.” We always wanted to do another story. By then we had become friends with Stephen S. What people don’t […]

Sullivan Has Penguins Primed For Serious Second Half Run

The Penguins enter the the 2nd half of the NHL season clinging to the final spot in the NHL’s wild card position courtesy of a nice three game win streak to close out the first half. After a tumultuous start to the Mike Sullivan era, the Penguins have righted the ship and are playing some […]
