At the draft, Preds TV captured how the James Neal trade went down. Interestingly enough, it seems like there was another piece that didn’t happen:
What David Poile was saying was that Rutherford had a trade in place to get the 23rd pick from the AVs, and was going to package that pick, as well as the Penguins 22nd pick, for the Nashville pick at 11. This all would have been included in the James Neal deal.
What was the deal with the Avs? Did it fall through because maybe the Penguins wanted a certain player at 11, and that player was off the board?
Guess we will never know.
