NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins at Colorado Avalanche

QUICK CAP: Rocky Mountain Surprise. Penguins B team beats Avs 3-2.

Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 39 of 41 Avalanche shots. Brandon Sutter scored twice, and the Penguins beat the Avs in a shootout 3-2.

This was a meaningless game for the Penguins, therefore it really is a meaningless win. This was a bad loss for the Avalanche, however. They are in a battle for home-ice with the Blackhawks, and that extra point would have been huge. Good to see Semyon Varlamov in playoff-choke mode.

THREE STARS

3. Nathan MacKinnon

MacKinnon is good.  Like really good. And he’s only 18 years old, which is scary.

2. Marc-Andre Fleury

Made several sparkling saves after the Avs tied it late in the third. He was solid all game long.

1. Brandon Sutter

He scored his first even-strength goal since December 19th. Sutter basically carried the offense on his back. Could be a game that gets him going for the playoffs.
