New York Rangers (20-19-2) @ Pittsburgh Penguins (29-12-1)
Root Sports, MSG2, RDS – 7:00 pm/et
Consol Energy Center – Pittsburgh, PA
It's a "The Name Still Sounds Dumb Division" battle as the Pittsburgh Penguins meet the New York Rangers.
If you were hoping to see Evgeni Malkin or Kris Letang in the line-up tonight, you're going to be disappointed. They both skated today, but neither will play.
Ryan Callahan will be in the Rangers' line-up. Former Ranger and new Penguin Taylor Pyatt will likely play for the Pens.
STATS, INFO & NOTES:
Penguins: Sidney Crosby (22G, 37A: 59P)
Rangers: Mats Zuccarello (9G, 19A: 28P)
Probable Starting Goaltenders:
Penguins: Marc-Andre Fleury (22-10-1, 2.15 GAA, .920 Sv%)
Rangers: Henrik Lundqvist (12-15-2, 2.70 GAA, .908 Sv%)
Penguins: Lost to New Jersey Devils 2-1.
Rangers: Defeated Florida Panthers 2-1 [SO].
Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that once Ryan Callahan returns from injury, possibly as early as tonight in Pittsburgh, JT Miller is likely the odd man out.
Brooks speculates that Callahan would be inserted on the second line with Richards and Zuccarello, while Brassard would slide down to Miller's spot centering Benoit Poiliot and Carl Hagelin on the third line.
Brooks adds that Callahan could replace Kreider on the second power play unit or AV could move Stepan to the point on the second unit which would bump Moore or Stralman off the power play.
What Happened Last Time: December 18, 2013 – Pens won 4-3 in a shootout. [Our Recap]
Game flipped into a wildly entertaining affair just like that.
And despite the Penguins wilting a bit late, they still got two more points. But, really, this isn't so much about the Penguins as it’s about how bad the Rangers are. What a mess. They look like a team with no clue what their identity is. Brad Richards may be the softest player in the NHL.
Penguins Player(s) to Watch: Taylor Pyatt, because he's playing his old team.
Rangers Player(s) to Watch: Ryan Callahan, because he's returning.
