Notes & Lines: Flyers @ Pens

There is a 12.5% chance that these two teams will meet in the first round. Honestly, we’re hoping that the Flyers lose the rest of their games and end up moving into the second Wild Card spot. That would move them to the Atlantic Division playoffs and put them against Boston in the first round. For that to happen, not only would they have to lose both games they have remaining, but both Columbus and Detroit would need to win their final games. All three teams have 91 points right now, but the Flyers have only played 80 games while Columbus and Detroit have played 81. The Flyers also have more regulation/overtime wins than either team.

So the Flyers dropping to the second Wild Card spot isn’t likely at all. But we’re going to keep the pipe dream live, since there’s no part of us that wants the Flyers in the playoffs. The Pens tend to fall apart and play their dumbest hockey against them.

The Flyers going 0-2 in their remaining games, combined with a loss by Detroit against St. Louis on Sunday or a loss by Columbus against Florida today actually makes it more likely that the Pens would meet the Flyers in the first round. Unless BOTH Detroit and Columbus lose, which would leave things where they are right now. We think. This hurts.

Honestly, ignoring all of that stuff, we just hope no one on the Penguins gets hurt today. The Pens are finally getting healthier and we’d like to see it stay that way.

It looks like the Pens won’t be using this opportunity to rest their stars. Harry Zolnierczyk has been recalled from WBS.
