It Looks Like Lee Stempniak is a Pittsburgh Penguin

According to Pierre LeBrun, it's pending a trade call. No idea what the Pens traded away. EDIT: It's a third round pick.

Stempniak is signed until the end of this season with a $2.5 million cap hit.

EDIT: What can the Penguins expect from Stempniak? We asked Kent Wilson of Flames Nation for some info. This is what he said:

Despite a lengthy scoring drought this year, Stempniak has been one of the better forwards for the Flames since he arrived in the Daymond Langkow trade. His possession rates have been amongst the team leaders and last year he co-led the team in scoring with Mike Cammalleri.

Stempniak is a strong skater and a sneaky hard hitter, so he can be effective at pushing the puck into the offensive zone. Every so often he pulls off a great dangle that makes a defenders miss. On the other hand, his scoring touch comes and goes erratically – when he's on, Stempniak looks like a sniper. When he's off (like he has been this year) he can't seem to put a puck in the ocean. The good news is, he is consistently good at generating chances at least. What changes is how often he can actually cash in on them, which is why he usually tops out at 40 point guy.

Overall, Stempniak is a really useful middle tier, supporting type player. He can play on either special team and he doesn't have to be sheltered at even strength to be effective. Because of this, he was actually a player I was sort of hoping the Flames would retain during the rebuild.

Sounds like what the Pens need.
