Apparently you can get a Penguins 1992 Championship Ring at some auction

We got some bizarre email the other day.

I thought your readers might be interested in the 1992 Penguins Stanley Cup championship ring that is being offered as part of the Lelands.com Spring 2014 Catalog Auction.

At first we thought a player must have given it up or maybe Pierre McGuire couldn’t bare it anymore. But turns out it is a sample from the company that made it:

One year after having captured their first Stanley Cup championship, the Pittsburgh Penguins doubled their pleasure and knocked off the Minnesota North Stars in the finals to repeat as champions. This very rare 10k sample ring from Balfour features the name of their star player: “LEMIEUX” on a side shank along with his number 66 and the team logo. On the opposite shank are the words: “PITTSBURGH PENGUINS” and “BACK TO BACK” with two cups in between. Ringing the outer edge of the face is: “1992 STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS” surrounding a black stone and two big cubic zirconias, It is in NRMT condition. Lemieux, the captain, led the club with 87 assists and 131 points. The ring size is 9.5.

The auction starts at $2,000. You may think it is crazy, but at the rate players from that era are getting jobs with the Penguins, maybe this ring makes sense for you.

The pics are cool:
