Pittsburgh Penguins Gameday 39 – New York Rangers

New York Rangers (18-15-3) @ Pittsburgh Penguins (28-10-0)

ROOT, NHLN-US, MSG PLUS, RDS – 7:00 pm/et

Consol Energy Center – Pittsburgh, PA

The Pittsburgh Penguins thought that they could just show up at MSG on Wednesday night and have the New York Rangers hand them a victory with a side of fries and a tasty beverage to wash it all down. Unfortunately, all the Rangers handed them was a plate of humiliating defeat pie.

Have the Penguins learned that their collective awesomeness and "OMG remember we had a 15-game winning streak" aren't enough to bring them easy victories or will Ryane Clowe poop in their faces again?

The New Double J, Jussi Jokinen, makes his Pittsburgh Penguins debut tonight. Read all about him.

Season Series: Pens lead 3-1-0

Last meeting that counted: April 3, 2013. Penguins lost 6-1.

What we said in our recap:

We're huge fans of the Pens looking like ass right now. It was bound to happen when the streak ended. This is all happening at the best time possible, too. The Pens will be playing the 7 or 8 seed in the first round. Those two seeds will have hit some kind of stride by that time in order to battle through the logjam at the bottom of the East. So, let the Pens figure some shit out over the next few games and get their bearings.

Also, to make further excuses, in the past two games, the Pens have faced two teams that are battling for their playoff lives every night.Buffalo was all jammed up before the deadline. The Rangers and their new makeup were jammed following the deadline.

Friday night should be a good barometer on how things really are. Unless the Pens lose again. In that case, we'll make some other excuse. Also no Crosby, Letang, and Martin ain't nothing to sleep on.

What they're saying:

Meanwhile, Pat Leonard at the Daily News reports that both Marc Staal and JT Miller are on the road trip (Pitt, Car, & Tor) with the team.

Leonard adds that while Miller skated with the team this morning, Staal was not on the ice and will leave the team in Carolina to visit his family and then meet back up with the team in New York.

Steve Zipay at Newsday says Miller is still getting treatment on his wrist but will not need surgery.
