Pittsburgh Penguins Gameday 20: New Jersey Devils

Pittsburgh Penguins (12-7-0) @ New Jersey Devils (6-8-5)
Root Sports, MSG Plus – 7:00 pm/et
Prudential Center – Newark, New Jersey

The Devils are currently fifth in the chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice cream division and seven points behind the Penguins. They're 5-3-2 in their last ten, however.

With this being the second half of a back-to-back for the Penguins, we're a little surprised to see Fleury in net, but that is what's happening. Brodeur is starting for New Jersey. The Devils are also on the second half of a back-to-back. Cory Schneider played yesterday.

Leading Scorers:

Penguins: Sidney Crosby (9G, 16A: 25P)
Devils: Jaromir Jagr (5G, 9A: 14P)

Starting Goaltenders:

Penguins: Marc-Andre Fleury (11-5-0, 2.00 GAA, .922 Sv%)
Devils: Martin Brodeur (5-3-2, 2.08 GAA, .913 Sv%)

What They're Saying: "Crosby and Co. Come to Town"

The Devils gave a good effort last night but ultimately a late 3rd period goal and an empty net goal gave the Kings a 3rd period victory for the second night in a row. The final was 2-0 but I thought the game was much better and much more intense than a 2-0 shutout would be. On the other side of the puck, the Penguins have been struggling a bit but won last night 4-1 over the Predators. The Penguins come into this game 5-5 in their last 10 while the Devils come in 5-3-2 in their last 10.

What Happened Last Time: October 3, 2013 – Pens won 3-0. [Our Recap]

You have to start somewhere, and this was a good place for the 2013-2014 season to start. Too many times, the roles have been reversed in this type of game. Usually the Devils shut the Pens down, get some shitty goals, and go home. Not this time. The Pens (and Marc-Andre Fleury) were aided largely by the fact that the Devils are terrible.

Penguins Player(s) to Watch: Marc-Andre Fleury, since he played yesterday as well.

Devils Player(s) to Watch: Jaromir Jagr, because he's Jaromir Jagr.
