Gabriel Landeskog named Avalanche Captain, People Make it about Sidney Crosby

Today Gabriel Landeskog was named captain of the Colorado Avalanche. This makes him the youngest captain in NHL history. Of course, Sidney Crosby once held that title. Big deal. That means nothing. Younger and younger people are accomplishing things every day. The Crosby fact should be noted a a minor footnote in this story but, of course, some people want to make the story about Sidney Crosby.

People like Rob Rossi.

But that wasn't all. Rossi also made a point of telling this fact to other reporters on Twitter.

For what it's worth, Rossi then pointed out that he was "just providing historic context" and that the Avalanche "made [a] wise choice" by selecting Landeskog as captain.

We get that Rossi covers the Penguins and that covering the Pens during the summer with a lockout looming is a pretty tough thing to do. However, the "Crosby won all kinds of stuff before Landeskog did" argument definitely sounds like a slight at Landeskog. At the very least, it's a pointless thing to offer up. Probably not as pointless as this blog post, but still.

Sidney Crosby is a great player. So is Gabriel Landeskog. There's no need to point out that "CROSBY IS SO MUCH BETTER!!!!" at this point because no one is trying to say that Landeskog is better than Crosby. All that was said is that he's younger. Some people are even upset that the Avs didn't wait until the season started so that Crosby could keep the "title" as if it really means anything to anyone. Of course, some Crosby haters are also really happy that this "title" was taken away from him….

Stop taking everything so personally. Just because someone else is good, that doesn't mean the player or team you like isn't good. Relax and await the lockout.
